Dm's question for Air Elemental [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-25-06, 04:35 AM In whirlwind form the air elementals dont provoke AoO's.However if someone tries to hit one, while in whirlwind form, with a sword lets say, he can do it normally or he has any miss chances like for incorporeal creatures??And also while in whirlwind form can it pass through a closed door that has a little gap? Is it considered to be something "stable" or it can squeeze through wholes like the wind?

03-25-06, 05:09 PM .... Oddly enough, the description of the Whirlwind ability says nothing, so, by RAW, the Air Elemental can be harmed as normal. I don't really have any idea how to houserule things, though maybe giving the miss chance can be a good idea. o.O

Why should its alternate form, which is physically the same, be any different?

...well "whirlwind" occuping more space... so I don't really know...

03-28-06, 04:47 PM I believe the air elemental's inherent insubstantial-ness is already represented by it's DR (much in the same way it's represented for the Gaseous Form (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/gaseousForm.htm) spell).

03-28-06, 05:14 PM might as well ask how you can hit a fire elemental or a water elemental. How do you "hit" fire? Or water? Air elementals are still just air, regardless of what form they are in.

03-28-06, 08:23 PM The elemental is not incorporeal in whirlwind form. Nothing indicates that. Elementals can be damaged by weapons and are technically living creatures even though their form appears highly mutable.
Air elementals aren't even gaseous. They cannot squeeze through holes, or much alter their size. They are a chunk of living air.
