I've decided that I want to try to bring slivers into my DnD game, and I already have a way to bring them in. For those of you that don't play M:tG, slivers are craetures that grant each other abilities. For example, a Plated Sliver boosts the defense of all slivers.
I need your help for the stats of the slivers, and also for some transitional things. Certain slivers will translate easily, like Plated Sliver, which would either boost AC or HP. Some others, though, will be tricky; especially things like Synapse Sliver. Thanks in advance for your help!

For those not in the know Slivers are a creature from Magic the Gathering. They where breed on an enclosed demi-plane built buy a Planeswalker as the staging ground for invading the Prime Material in the games cosmology. The slivers come in different sub-species that have certain supernatural powers depending upon breed. The main thing about the slivers is they share their particular supernatural power with all other slivers in the area. Some slivers fly (Winged Sliver), so if they are around all other slivers fly as well. Some can blow themselves up into an acid bomb to damage enemies (Acidic Sliver), some are exceptionally fast (Heart Sliver) while others make them selves and all others neer by stronger (Muscle Sliver). They an artaficialy created species that is extremely adaptable to their environment.

I would say Synapse Sliver would have an opposite effect of taking spells from a struck caster (ruff translation of card advantage into D&D terms IMO). Something like every hit can strip 1d4 spell levels from the memory or daily spell alotment of a struck caster.

Other slivers such as Magma Sliver do not translate well at all while Toxin Sliver can provide them with a deadly contact poison coating their hides. Essence Sliver would provide them with a persentage of damage dealt to heal the Sliver, or maybe a straight +1d8 HP healed to self on every hit?

I would limit the magical sharing of abilities to slivers within 60 ft.
Hive Mind range 1 mile centered on Sliver Queen.
Outside of the Queens hive mind range they only can communicate telepathicaly within 60 ft (same as ability sharing).

Using D&D you open up a whole new world of Sliver possabilities as you can have slivers with the fire subtype that damage any close to them with a heat aura, slivers that are infused with negative energy, slivers that have a displacement ability like displacer beasts, etc.. the possabilities are limitless.

The only problem I see is how have the slivers not taken of the world? With their fast breeding rate, extreme abaptability and agressive nature what has stopped them? Or are they a brand new species to the world; either newly created or just landed here on a meteor or from another plane of existance?

Some food for thought.

I was thinking more along the lines of a 100 foot radius for sliver powers. BTW, thanks for clarifying; after reading my post I can see I needed it.

As to why they haven't taken over, it's simple: they aren't on the Prime Material. In fact, they were created by a deity to protect his divine stronghold, and hardly ever leave it. The idea was that the deity was originally from this world, but got sucked across to the DnD world and discovered his powers. Being a gamer, the deity quicly started making familiar things, like slivers.

There's a thread on Slivers in D&D over at ENWorld.

And several threads on these boards, too.

Okay, I did a search and came up with quite a few. All but 3 were threads where someone misspelled silver. Of the three, one was this thread, one was reference to another thread, and the third was the one you were referring to. The thread itself had no stats for slivers, although it did provide me with this link (http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36933) to the ENWorld forum. In spite of this, I'd like to see what we here can come up with.

Edit: on second thought, that link really has everything anybody would need to make DnD Slivers. Let's just let this thread sink to the bottom then, shall we?

I've actually been in the process of creating slivers using the 3.5 rules. If you are interested, I'd be willing to post the statistics here. they are different from the ones posted on the ENBoard (I feel that slivers are more intelligent) but still not uber strong alone.

I could do it just like he did if you'd like. two slivers a day for however long it takes. Let me know :) I'll probably at least post the base sliver that I have.

Snommelp, convert some of the ones from the sliver making contest OK ;)

if anyone chose to post the slivers here, i for one would appreciate seeing them.

(due to some quirk of the screening program where i work, i can come onto these forums but not enworlds?!)

Yeah, I get the irony. I mispelled "mispelled." I was tired when I wrote it, and I'm tired now, so I'm still not sure if it's spelled right.

No, you misspelled Sliver; you typed Silver.

That's the ironic part. I have no clue how to spell misspell, that looks right.

Magma Sliver: all slivers gain the following ability: as a full round action, they can envoke a bardic music like ability, granting all slivers within 30 ft +1 to attack/ each sliver within 30 ft. lasts 1 round.

Oh, that's what you meant. No, I meant silver, not sliver. Most of the threads in the search were about dragons.

You know, I think I will. That is, once I get this massive amount of homework out of the way. That might take a while, so I might not start converting slivers until next week or the week after.

@Primus: no problem, we all make mistakes.

Heehee... just wait until I make an attempt at a half-sliver template, Joe.

I think this sounds like a really good idea.

I may even like using slivers that don't grant their abilities to others, just themselves.

How about this for sliver overlord:

"as a move-equivalent action, the overlord may summon a sliver to him. The sliver appears 1 round after activating this ability."

I don't know how you'd go about getting the gain control ability into DnD though.

Gain control is like a greater dominate:

The target gets a will save at a -8 penalty vs Dominate.

What are you talking about?
"All slivers within (insert range here) feet gain an attack bonus equal to the number of slivers within range. This means that a sliver entering range will cause the attack bonus given to both:
a. go up by one, and
b. be given to the new sliver as well; a sliver LEAVING range, however, will lose its bonus and cause the bonus to the others to drop by one."
It translates FINE!

PS: Yes, I do know you've already done a build for magma sliver, Vaalin. This is an alternate build to prevent the monster loosing game balance.

I can only get info on the older slivers. I have been thinking about this and will be creating 2 basic sliver forms at 2HD and 4HD (for the 1/1 and 2/2 respectively) and then template the specific slivers. Anyway, the main concern is translating the special abilities and I wanted to keep the abilities both simple and stackable for ease of use:
Talon: +2 initiative
Armour: +2 AC
Mnemonic: ?
Winged: Fly 30’, +10/winged sliver beyond 1st, +1 MC/3 winged slivers
Clot: fastheal2
Mindwhip: 1 point Int poison, DC +2 and damage +1 / mindwhip sliver beyond 1st
Heart: ?
Raging: +1 to hit +2 to damage
Muscle: +1 to hit +1 to AC
Horned: Mobility Feat, with +1 AC for each horned sliver beyond 1st
Crystalline: SR 20, +2 for each Crystalline sliver beyond 1st
Victual: +10 temporary HP
Spined: if attacked in melee, automatically deals 1d4 to attacker within 5’. +1/ additional spined sliver. +5’reach/5 spined slivers
Acidic: acid immunity, acid spit: 10’ ranged touch +1 to hit 1d6 damage(all three increase)
Hibernation: ?

some of the translations are rather liberal :D still have no good ideas for mnemonic, hibernation and heart.

I don't know how you'd go about getting the gain control ability into DnD though. sorry for the double post, but thought struck me, would this ability not work more like a summon spell than a dominate effect. maybe similar to demon/devil summon ability?

The sliver overlord Magic card lets you search your library for a sliver and also gain control of slivers. Thats why it has the summoning ability
