| The Vorpal Tribble09-17-04, 02:29 AM | I've been looking over incorporeal creatures and I've been trying to figure out if deflection bonuses to their AC stack? I have some folk who have told me they do, others who have told me they do not. Would anyone have anything official they can show me that states one or the other? |
| cwslyclgh09-17-04, 02:42 AM | no, if an incorporeal creature gets more then 1 deflection bonus to their AC, use the higher one. Check the sections on Bonus Types and Stacking Bonuses on page 21 of the DMG (3.5, not sure the page in the 3.0 DMG). |
| The Vorpal Tribble09-17-04, 02:59 AM | Ah, my thanks upon you and your kin :D |
| Kurama Youko09-18-04, 02:56 PM | Wait, what about players under the affects of the Shield Spell, and Ring of Protection.. or Mage Armor and Ring of Protection. |
| shadow mage09-18-04, 03:58 PM | Ring of protection uses a deflection bonus. Mage armor/bracers of armor use armor bonuses. Shield spell uses a +4 "shield" (which is to say armor) bonus. Armor bonuses stack. Armor and Deflection bonuses stack. If you had a Ring of Protection +4, were under the benefits of the shield spell, and wore bracers of armor +4 you would gain +12 to Armor Class. |
| Enalung09-18-04, 05:55 PM | The anwser is that bonuses of the same type never stack (unless stated otherwise in a rule book) and that bonuses of different types do stack. There's some nice explanation here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20040127a You can also find much information in your core rule books. |
| shadow mage09-18-04, 06:18 PM | I'm going to assume the lone exception to that rule is armor bonuses. |
| malykoth09-18-04, 06:20 PM | I'm going to assume the lone exception to that rule is armor bonuses. As the article also pointed out, "dodge" bonuses and "circumstance" bonuses also stack, as do unnamed bonuses. |
| shadow mage09-18-04, 06:30 PM | As the article also pointed out, "dodge" bonuses and "circumstance" bonuses also stack, as do unnamed bonuses. My apologies, I was using sarcasm to try and prove a point. -sigh- |
| malykoth09-18-04, 06:34 PM | My apologies, I was using sarcasm to try and prove a point. -sigh- Oh, I understood...I was just pointing out additional information to those who may have missed it. :) |
