Say a polymorphed Red walked into a crowded marketplace or tavern with a polymorphed Gold somewhere in the crowd, if they accidentally bumped into one another would it just be an "excuse me, sir" or would there be a narrowing of eye slits and a grim "i know what you are" staring contest and perhaps a conflict, or is Polymorph so proof a spell that they would just pass like two ships in the night? To put it simply, can they see through one anothers disguise?

Im not good at spell, but i think this power function just like the spell, so you should check the spell in the player handbook...

I think it's best left entirely up to the DM. Personally, I'd ask for a spot and/or sense motive check at the very most, although the spot check could be a little iffy considering that a polymorphed dragon shouldn't have any distinguishably draconic features.

My house rule is this:

Each makes a Wisdom check to determine if they realise that the other dragon is infact a dragon in disguise. The DC is 10+3/age category.
Ex. An old gold dragon bumps into an ancient red dragon in the market, they both make their roles. Gold DC=34 Red DC=40. The Gold roles a 38 while the Red roles a 35. (red roles badly)
So the gold dragon goes about his business blissfully unaware, while the red (barely) realises that he just bumped into a dragon and reacts accordingly.

A role is made every round that the two dragons are within 30 feet of eachother. They dont know age, type of anyother thing like that, they just have the overbearing feeling that another dragon is in their presence.

My house rule is:

Whatever produces the most interesting scenario at the time. ;)

I would also grant a bonus that increases with age categories for spotting other dragons of your type and perhaps having a feat that negates this for the dragons who would rather just have peace.

Probably not, unless they happen to be dragons who know each other. Then they might be able to figure it out if they spent a little time together

No, not a chance unless they have prior knowlodge of each other or some way of revealing the other.

Except that there would be some similarities between those of the same species in how they act.

maybe the Gold Dragon would say: "Sir..u smell like a Volcano...SNIFSNIIIIF!!!
Oh Man, ur an Evil Dragon!!! ****, Som1 help me im a Juvenile and hes a Greatwyrm!!! He smell Red Dragon.."

Oh God, it hurts...

1) Polymorphed creatures smell like the new creature, not the original one. Case in point: creatures polymorphed into Troglodytes gain the Stench attack.
2) Why would the Gold Dragon, a wise and resourceful creature, saying something like so blatant and foolish, especially if the Red seems to be far stronger than him?
3) How the hell does he even know that the Red is a Great Wyrm? And would he really think that somebody powerful enough to slay a Great Red Wyrm would conviently be there?

Aaaaaagh...

Hooray for overreacting.

Do people normally get a chance to recognize that a polymoprhed creature is actually something else? no, not unless the creature does something to make the person suspicious.

please please PLEASE tell me that was a joke post and not how you normally type. :weep:

oh, and one other flaw with that:

I doubt dragons go: "I grew up a year....wow, I'm a juvenile. My HD must have increased, and golly gee, I just jumped a size." Age categories are terms mostly for DMs, Players, and other humanoids to classify dragons.

As for the OP: I'd say no, but it would be interesting if they could. The only way they would know is if one of them had a True Seeing type spell in effect.

Oh, and Hedstrong, I don't see why it would be harder to recognize older dragons - wouldn't they radiate 'dragoness' much stronger than younger ones, and thus be easier to sense?

Well sir, note i said Home Brew, so i suppose i should have also stated my take on dragons.

In my world, dragons are extremely closely tied to each other, not just in body but in spirit. They are all spawns of "The Great Dragon", esentially sharing the same esence. Therefore when in the presence of another dragon they can 'sence' the same power that they too are made of.

As for the age, yes old dragons would radiate much more power but they would be aware of that. As such they would take measures to control and conceal that presence. A young dragon would be untrained and reckless, not seeing the need or not knowing how. There for an older dragon would be harder to detect then a younger one.

Seeing as how the OP is using non homebrew dragons, i suppose my form has no real meaning. Then again i wasnt saying that my way was the definant right answer, merely how i do it.

That makes sense. IMO, they'd have to make a will save or something along those lines, to see how well they hide their presence...but it's your world, not mine, and this is getting off topic. Sounds like an interesting world you have going there, though. :)

No they won't recognize each other.
Polymorph is polymorph no matter who casts it.

If they were to(I'd say no), they should at least get a circumstance bonus to Sense Motive checks after studying the other dragon, just to see its personality.

Its been said a few times, that there is no rule to allow it, but if it makes for an interesting encounter, I say, fine by me.
Since I have had something similar to this happen in game before, I allowed both sides to make a Dragon Age check (1d20 + Wis + Age level of the dragon) to see through each other's disguises.

A sense motive check opposed to a hide check with age bonus to both. A +5 goes to the Sense Motive check for the same type of dragon (Such as a Gold noticing another Gold). The basic idea would be that even though they are in the form of a human there are some traits and mannerisms and other such things that would show them as dragons (Perhaps twitching in the shoulders when they get nervous and want to run or other things of the sort) and dragons of the same type would have more similarities. Only those with a lot of knowledge would be able to identify more than just that they are a dragon or of the same type, and it would require a very large result to actually identify a specific dragon.
