| mhr7407-04-05, 03:01 PM | Can a monster use both their natural weapons and reg. weapons if there usage does not conflict? For example, if a monster has natural weapons of bite/ claw/ claw and can use a club, could they attack bite/ club, or bite/claw/ club? |

| was_fired07-05-05, 05:55 PM | Basicly if you use a natural weapon and a manufactured weapon the natural weapon is secondary. This means that say at level 6 your attack bonuses would look like: Sword +6/+1, Bite +1. Or Sword +6/+1, Claw +1, Bite +1. In addition to this these attacks also deal 1/2 strength damage (as with an off-handed weapon). |
| Colmarr07-05-05, 10:28 PM | Can a monster use both their natural weapons and reg. weapons if there usage does not conflict? What was_fired means is "yes". To be more specific, a creature keeps all of its natural attacks when using a manufactured weapon, so long as the manufactured weapon is not held in one of them. Further, any natural attacks that would have been "primary" become secondary when the creature uses a manufactured weapon, and suffer the secondary weapon attack penalty (normally -5, but only -2 if the creature has the Multiattack feat). If the creature has a high enough BAB to get more than one attack with the manufactured weapon, it can still make its natural attacks as normal. By way of example, a Troglodyte Warrior 1 has a bite/claw/claw natural weapon routine. Normally the claws are the primary weapons. The bite, being the secondary weapon, takes a -2 to attacks (the Troglodyte has Multiattack). Therefore an unarmed trog can full attack for 2 claws at +1 and a bite -1. If the trog picks up a longsword, it (1) loses the ability to attack with the claw holding the weapon, and (2) all natural weapons become secondary. Therefore the trog can full attack for longsword +1, claw -1, and bite -1. If a Trog Warrior 6 (BAB +6) picks up a longsword, it can full attack for longsword +6/+1, claw +4, and bite +4. Does that help? |
| Greyman07-06-05, 09:21 AM | In addition, a creature may fight with two (or more) manufactured weapons and it's natural weapons, and the two weapon fighting penalties only apply to the manufactured weapon. An example of this is the athach, which fights with three morningstars and a bite attack as the standard monster manual full attack option. Athach Huge Aberration; BAB: +10; Str: 26; full attack: Morningstar +12/+7 melee (3d6+8), and 2 morningstars +12 melee (3d6+4), and bite +12 melee (2d8+4 plus poison); Feats used: Multiweapon Fighting, Weapon Focus (Bite) The attack and damage modifiers are calculated as follows: Primary one-handed weapon (morningstar): +10 (BAB) +8 (Str) -2 (Size) -4 (multiweapon), /-5 iterative = +12/+7 to attack; Strength bonus x1 = +8 damage. Two off-hand one-handed weapons (morningstars): +10 (BAB) +8 (Str) -2 (Size) -4 (multiweapon) = +12 to attack each; Strength bonus x1/2 = +4 damage. Secondary natural weapon (bite): +10 (BAB) + 8 (Str) -2 (Size) -5 (Secondary) +1 (weapon focus) = +12 to attack; Strength bonus x1/2 = +4 to damage. |
