| bomaz12-18-05, 09:53 AM | how come dire elephants have a listed climb speed? |
| savant_warlord1312-18-05, 10:07 AM | Maybe it's supposed to be a swim speed, elephants are excellent swimmers |
| bomaz12-18-05, 10:10 AM | perhaps but now we can enjoy the thought of an elephant sitting in a tree. |
| savant_warlord1312-18-05, 10:14 AM | no matter how good a climber you are, the surface to be climbed must be able to support your weight. In other words, that had better be an adamantine tree |
| obrysii12-18-05, 10:15 AM | I'm pretty sure they've eliminated that in the errata and/or 3.5 Update file. |
| bomaz12-18-05, 10:18 AM | no matter how good a climber you are, the surface to be climbed must be able to support your weight. In other words, that had better be an adamantine tree probably. or a small hut (soon an ex hut) or whatever. There is no errata for mm2 or masters of the wild as far as I know and I think the dire elephant is only in those 2 books. |
| malykoth12-18-05, 10:19 AM | perhaps but now we can enjoy the thought of an elephant sitting in a tree. In one game we were in, we failed a surprise check and were surprised by an elephant. We happened to be in a fairly small oasis at the time. We came to the conclusion that the elephant must have been hiding on top of the palm tree since we couldn't see him. The term "stealth elephant" became code for a rediculous circumstance that is enforced by the RAW. |
| ReverendCow12-18-05, 10:57 AM | Here's a kooky idea: Get some Slippers of Spider Climbing specially made for an elephant. I don't think it would be a very utilitarian idea, but it would be funny to raise a herd of elephants that live on cliffs with Climbdogs. Edit: Just make sure you don't walk underneath said cliff. You might get bludgeoned to death. |
| JiCi12-18-05, 11:21 AM | Guys, the Climb speed has been corrected, as in deleted, in the MMII 3.5 update booklet. What I don't understand is why the dire elephant has such a low AC of 10 ? It only has -4 size and +4 natural armor. The normal elephant has a +7 natural armor bonus. The dire version should have at least +20, not +4. EDIT: Ok, fine, I'll answer it. No I do not enjoy the thought of an elephant climbing. I just find this typo totally silly and absurd. |
| Vestigial_Thumb12-18-05, 11:34 AM | Guys, the Climb speed has been corrected, as in deleted, in the MMII 3.5 update booklet. Killjoy! |
| lugnut7112-18-05, 09:04 PM | Let me just say three words Hannibel, Alps, Elephants. |
| zzap199012-24-05, 01:40 PM | who cares if its corrected any good DM could find a use for a climbing multiton dire elephant. ex) your walking down a hall of the abandoned temple. you hear a thudding sound so you look up and my oh my theirs what appears to be a dire elephant on the wall. the party thinks its a illusion so the elf archer aims and hits it through the eye killing it instantly and it falls squishing every one under it ecept the archer who was away back to aim. |
| savant_warlord1312-24-05, 01:53 PM | Let me just say three words Hannibel, Alps, Elephants. the elephants did not climb up cliffs, they used moutain passes |
| evilagram12-24-05, 05:36 PM | but it's still hillarious to think of them doing so!!!!! Here's an idea of a use for the dire elephant!!! An evil warlord/sorceror/mastermind/etc. could have a room where he breeds them and he can paint them all pink to make the person inside think he's going insane as he sees dire pink elephants walking up and down the walls and ceilings of the room!!!!!!! I'm laughing histerically as I write this!!!!! |
| bomaz12-25-05, 10:38 AM | :bounce: |
| lugnut7112-25-05, 11:03 AM | the elephants did not climb up cliffs, they used moutain passes Well durh but it's still funny. |
| Raven Dark12-25-05, 11:32 AM | Do you enjoy the thought of an elephant climbing? Yes. Yes I do. :D |

No I do not enjoy the thought of an elephant climbing. I just find this typo totally silly and absurd. I never noticed the AC issue with Dire Elephants. That is silly. I think I'd double the normal Elephant AC and make +14 though for a total AC of 20. |
| zzap199012-26-05, 10:54 AM | the elephants did not climb up cliffs, they used moutain passes they only use mountain passes because they can go any other way! so with climbing they would take the shortest path which might be a pass or right over a mountain. |
| zzap199012-26-05, 11:02 AM | to my evil :plotting: mind :evillaugh think of this a dire elephant that is celestial or fiendish so it has the wings and flying then paint them pink and have them follow people around!!! |
| Riznar12-26-05, 03:25 PM | About the dire elephant AC, you ever notice that creatures of the animal type rarely have AC over 20? It makes a celestial stegosaurus much less threatening |
| Weenie12-26-05, 04:16 PM | Errata or no, the average (MM) elephant still has a Climb modifier of +10, from having Str 30. And a Jump modifier of +14 as well (its speed is 40 ft.) Ever seen an elephant jump across a cliff? I don't really have a problem with this, it's just a consequence of having certain skills modified by a certain ability - and such divisions are mostly arbitrary. Things like these can and do come up in any system. Speaking of animals, it's been pointed out before that an average dog has a higher Dexterity than an average cat... now that, unlike climbing elephants, is a designer's choice, and that makes very little sense. |
| Lina_Inverse12-26-05, 04:21 PM | No no, i actully -love- the idea of elephents with climb speeds. |

| lugnut7112-26-05, 05:32 PM | Dog lovers always keeping us cat lovers down. |
| zzap199012-26-05, 06:36 PM | well i have both and cats have way more Dexterity then dogs so to compisate sense elephants climb i heraby give all cat like creatures a perfact fly speed of 30 :evillaugh:evillaugh:evillaugh |
