...qualify them for prestige classes? Or do they still have to gain the abilities from classes or the like?

That depends entirely upon the Prestige Class. If you mean, "Does a racial bonus allow them access to a Prestige Class that requires ranks?" then, no, it does not.

If, however, you simply mean base attack bonus, save requirements, and things like that, then yes. They function just like normal for any creature that wants to take a prestige class.


On a side note, if a creature naturally has, say, the evasion ability, whether or not they qualify for a prestige class that requires the evasion ability is dependant upon several things.

First, the prestige class might state that a requirement is "The evasion class ability." Taken strictly and literally, this means you would have to get evasion from a class. A lenient DM might waive that requirement, however, and allow you access to the class if you have evasion as a racial ability.



If you gave me a more specific example, I could give you a more specific answer. ;)
