Does Break Enchantment End a Ghost's Malevolence (Possession)? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-17-04, 06:15 PM Can anyone tell me whether a break enchantment spell can break a ghost's possession of a body through its supernatural ability of malevolence? Thanks! :)

03-17-04, 06:25 PM Seeing as malevolence relies on directly hijacking the body and ousting the original soul rather than any form of mind-control, the answer is no. A break enchantment spell will not remove a possessing entity, or even prevent it from excercising control.

Thanks, I didn't really think so, but is there any way to drive out the ghost? Maybe a dispel evil?

03-17-04, 06:40 PM It can be blocked by protection from evil/chaos/law/good and other effects that block possesion. As for actually removing it, dispel evil wouldn't work as it only removes enchantments or spells with the evil descriptor. The only thing that could break it would be something that ends a magic jar spell.
