does savage species make better rogues then fighters?

I was playing with the savage species builds and came to an odd situation.

It isn't that bad for building scoundral types.

tried the pixie and the suggestions for a mephit (air) and found that any points lost for skills were easily compensated by race based skills and special abilities.

Is it just me or is it easier to build a roguish type then a fighter type using this book?

I concur that races such as the pixie and grig can make for very good rogues.

Though my impression was that many of the races, such as centaur, made for very powerful niche-type fighters. Rogues less so, because unless the monster has no racial HD, you get screwed out of the (8+int mod)*4 starting skill points for starting as a rogue.
