| Greyson03-22-04, 07:26 PM | I am looking for some ideas on how to convert the 2nd Ed. Doll Golem, which is featured in the Ravenloft Monstrous Compendium, to v.3.5. You may see the Doll Golem's 2nd Ed. statistics HERE (http://positron.jfet.org/adnd/monster/mm00141.htm#553cacc6). Initially, I adjusted the Flesh Golem, since it is the closest Construct Type. But the HD and AC don't work out very well. What do you think of applying the Construct Type to a small creature? Like a Template. |
| The_Fan03-22-04, 07:38 PM | Well ,the doll golem isn't very small since it's stats say it's 6' tall! |
| cwslyclgh03-22-04, 07:57 PM | I offered to do the conversion for you guys thursday, but Abyss said you had it covered :P anyway, I would just do a straight conversion... I will post one later tonight if you would like. |
| cwslyclgh03-22-04, 07:58 PM | Originally posted by The_Fan Well ,the doll golem isn't very small since it's stats say it's 6' tall! that would be the bone golem, stats for both are listed side by side there... the doll golem would actually be tiny. |
| cwslyclgh03-22-04, 08:26 PM | Doll Golem Tiny Construct Hit Dice: 10d10 (55 hp) Initiative: +2 Speed: 40ft. Armor Class: 19 (+2 size, +2 dex, +5 natural) Touch 14, Flat-footed 17 Base Attack/Grapple: +7/-2 Attack: Bite +9 melee (2d4-1 plus laughter) Full Attack: Bite +9 melee (2d4-1 plus laughter) Space/Reach: 2 1/2ft./0ft. The effects of the creature's bite are far worse, however. The victim begins to laugh on the round after the failed save. At this time, they take 1d4 points of damage from the muscle spasms imposed by the laughter. On following rounds, this increases to 2d4, then 3d4, and so on. The laughter stops when the character dies or receives a dispel magic. Following recovery, the victim suffers a penalty on all attack and saving throws of -1 per round that they were overcome with laughter (e.g., four rounds of uncontrolled laughter would equal a -4 penalty on attack/saving throws). This represents the weakness caused by the character's inability to breathe and is reduced by 1 point per subsequent turn until the character is fully recovered. Magic Immunity (Ex): A doll golem is immune to any spell or spell-like ability that allows spell resistance. In addition, certain spells and effects function differently against the creature, as noted below. Fire based attacks (including spells) affect it normaly, although they only deal 1/2 damage, a warp wood spell will slow the doll golem af if it were a slow spell, and a mending spell restores the creature to full hit points at once. *denotes it is not my work, and is largely cut and pasted from the website Greyson linked to. Notes: I did not include discription or flavor texts, I am sure that you can do that yourself. I also did not include a creation section, becasue I have not yet figured out the exact way that 3.5 prices golems... if I had to guess I would say it should cost about as much as a flesh golem, and require U.H.L. as one of the spells. I also lowered the bite damage... IMO 3d6 is bogus for a 1' tall creature, even in 2e, in 3-3.5 it is just rediculous (I think that the 2d4 I used is pushing it actually). with thier lack of damage reduction, lack of bonus construct HP 9due to size), and the fact that they have no natural reach (and thus must enter an opponents sqaure to attack them, proviking an AoO) I would say that thier CR is about 6. hope it is helpful. |
| Greyson03-23-04, 11:20 AM | Very cool. Thanks, Wes. I missed chat last Thursday because I Was at a Living Greyhawk event! But I wanted to run it by a few people. I think we do have it "covered," but I want to get a few other opinions. We want it to be just right. I like your statistics above, I think that is a dang good conversion. You hit on a couple of key points too, Wes. I too, thought that 3d6 Bite damage was a bit much for a tiny creature. I lowered it to 1d4 - with the Laughter, 1d4 sounds "fair." And then there is the issue of the Space/Reach. What about aloowing them the Improved Unarmed Strike feat to give them some "skill" at biting and avoiding the Attack of Oppurtunity? Do you think that is too much? Thanks for the input, guys. |
| CNichols03-24-04, 11:57 AM | Doll golems can also be found in Denizens of Darkness (3.0) and Denizens of Dread (3.5) for the Ravenloft line from Sword & Sorcery. |
| Greyson03-24-04, 12:34 PM | Thanks a ton, CNichols. That is very helpful. I looked in Necromancer's Tome of Horrors and did not find them there. And I did not think of Denizens of Dread. Thanks again. :) |
