These are the suparna eagles, incredible and dangerous spirit beasts that prey on other spirit beasts to maintain their most awesome powers. Many people believe them to be noble creatures, but they care only for their own kind and the welfare thereof. Some flocks of suparna eagles have been known to herd lesser spirit beasts for food. Suparna eagles are massive, brownish golden birds with black talons holding silver claws. Their eyes glow a brilliant crimson. While they prefer to hunt down other spirit beasts, they will level towns in search of characters with the discarnate legacy feat or class feature if they grow desperate. Suparna eagles open combat with a quick pass, allowing their crushing passage ability to soften up opponents and infrastructure before returning to launch a pinion storm. Crushing Passage (Ex): When making a double move or running, a suparna eagle displaces incredible amounts of air, which rush out to slam against anything in the immediate area. All creatures and objects within 10ft of a square that a suparna eagle moves through when making a double move or running take 2d6 bludgeoning damage. Creatures and magic items make negate this damage with a Fortitude saving throw (DC 18). This save is Constitution-based. Pinion Storm (Ex): A standard action, a suparna eagle can lash out with its wings, hurling its sharp feathers outward like darts, dealing 3d6 slashing damage to all creatures within a 40ft cone. A reflex saving throw (DC 18) means that a creature has taken half damage. This save is Constitution-based. Sense Discarnate (Su): A suparna eagle is aware of any creatures with the discarnate subtype within 1 mile of itself. It is aware of any creature with the discarnate legacy feat or class feature within 200ft of itself. Spell-Like Abilities (CL Druid 10): At will – gust of wind, wind wall 3/day – protection from arrows, control winds Spirit Killer (Su): A discarnate creature brought to -10 hit points by a suparna eagle’s natural attacks dies as if it did not have the immortality special ability. Spiritual Ebb (Ex): A suparna eagle’s physiology must constantly be replenished with spiritual energy. As such, they must eat the flesh of other discarnate creatures to maintain their powers. A suparna eagle must eat on creature with the discarnate subtype or one creature with the discarnate legacy feat or class feature of medium size or larger each month to maintain their powers. A suparna eagle that does not fulfill this requirement loses its spell-like abilities and Crushing Passage abilities until such time as they do. Notes: - Half of its powers are just part of the ecology, BUT I think Crushing Passage And Pinion Storm make up for this. - Trivia: Suparna is another name for the Hindu god Garuda. Garuda is also the name of a massive bird that was the natural enemy of the naga in buddhist mythology. |
