| Return of the Flumph09-13-07, 12:54 AM | I posted the grenchler a while back, so here's another Torvus Bog beastie. You can also use these stats for those killer fish in Super Metroid, since they look and act pretty much the same. Blogg Medium Magical Beast Hit Dice: 6d10+12 (45 hp) Initiative: +6 Speed: swim 40 ft Armor Class: 25 (+2 dex, +13 nat), touch 12, flat-footed 22 Base Attack/Grapple: +6/+10 Attack: bite +11 melee (3d4+6), or sonic blast +8 ranged touch (2d4) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Ram, Sonic Blast Special Qualities: darkvision 120, +4 to saves versus mind effects, resist sonic (5) Saves: Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +3 Abilities: Str 18, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 3, Wis 14, Cha 8 Skills: Spot +3, Listen +6, Hide +4, Move Silently +4 Feats: Dodge, Improved Initiative, Improved Natural Armor Challenge Rating: 5 Treasure: none Alignment: Always neutral Advancement: 7-12 HD (Medium), 13-18 HD (Large), 19-24 HD (Huge) The source of the ominous growling proves to be a streamlined, vaguely fishlike creature about seven feet from head to tail. Covered in black armored plating, this segmented creature swims with the many small fins spaced evenly around its radially symmetrical body, and glides through the underground lake quite gracefully. Suddenly, its eyeless head opens up, revealing three tooth-studded jaws. Successful predators of the underground seas, bloggs are believed to have descended from sharks that swam into the underdark and mutated into their present forms. Found in both fresh and saltwater, bloggs are more dangerous than their aboveground ancestors, and have developed supernatural powers as a result of their exposure to the underdark. More intelligent and social than most adventurers realize, bloggs have demonstrated various pack hunting strategies in nabbing their prey (which includes pretty much anything they can find). Bloggs tend to congregate in small schools that claim a series of flooded caves as their lair, and are usually led by an “alpha” specimen of great size and strength. Bloggs are hermaphroditic, and give live birth once every few years. Combat Frighteningly unpredictable, a blogg will sometimes ignore intruders in its lair for hours before spontaneously charging them with its mouth open. They usually don’t bother using their sonic blast unless they are facing smaller opponents, in which case they will typically fire several volleys before attacking. Ram (Ex): A charging blogg suffers no armor class penalties and adds twice its strength bonus to damage on a successful bite. Crush (Ex): By ramming a target without opening its mouth, a blogg can do crushing damage with its heavily armored head. This deals half damage to living things, but double damage to objects. Sonic Blast (Su): A blogg can fire a wave of concentrated sound from the pores on its armored head. This is a ranged touch attack with a range of sixty feet. The sound blast deals 2d4 points of sonic damage and forces creatures smaller than the blogg to succeed at a reflex save (DC 15) or be stunned for one round. The save DC is constitution based. Bloggling Small Magical Beast Hit Dice: 3d10+6 (22 hp) Initiative: +7 Speed: swim 30 ft Armor Class: 19 (+1 size, +2 dex, +6 nat), touch 13, flat-footed 17 Base Attack/Grapple: +3/+3 Attack: slam +6 melee (1d8+3) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Ram Special Qualities: darkvision 120, +4 to saves versus mind effects, resist sonic (5) Saves: Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +0 Abilities: Str 14, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 3, Wis 10, Cha 6 Skills: Listen +3 Feats: Dodge, Improved Initiative Challenge Rating: 3 Treasure: none Alignment: Always neutral Advancement: 4-5 HD (Small) This smallish, segmented fish creature swims, snakelike, through the water. Juvenile bloggs, often called blogglings, are left to fend for themselves. Small groups of them typically hang at the periphery of the pack's territory, scavenging the remains of the adults' kills and ganging up on the occasional prey of their own, until maturing. Combat Neither as canny nor as experienced as their elders, blogglings simply lunge at anything they outnumber as long as it isn't too big and scary looking. Their jaws have not fully developed yet, so they can only slam their enemies with their half-grown beaks. Ram (Ex): A charging bloggling suffers no armor class penalties and adds twice its strength bonus to damage on a successful slam. Alpha Blogg Huge Magical Beast Hit Dice: 24d10+144 (276 hp) Initiative: +5 Speed: swim 60 ft Armor Class: 29 (-2 size, +1 dex, +20 nat), touch 9, flat-footed 28 Base Attack/Grapple: +24/+44 Attack: bite +34 melee (3d10+11), or sonic blast +23 ranged touch (2d8) Space/Reach: 20 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Ram, Crush, Sonic Blast Special Qualities: darkvision 120, resist sonic (5) Saves: Fort +20, Ref +15, Will +8 Abilities: Str 34, Dex 12, Con 22, Int 2, Wis 14, Cha 8 Feats: Dodge, Improved Initiative, Improved Natural Armor (3), Ability Focus (sonic blast) Improved Natural Weapon (bite), Power Attack, Gulp Challenge Rating: 11 Treasure: none Alignment: Always neutral Advancement: - Truly a monster, this chitinous cave fish is nearly thirty feet long, and could probably swallow a horse in one bite. The oldest member of a blogg school is often of great size, and uses its strength and experience to keep the others in its sway. This particular specimen has grown to the maximum level of size and ferocity that is possible for a blogg to reach. Combat Ram (Ex): A charging alpha blogg suffers no armor class penalties and adds one and a half times its strength bonus to damage on a successful bite. Crush (Ex): By ramming a target without opening its mouth, an alpha blogg can do crushing damage with its heavily armored head. This deals half damage to living things, but double damage to objects. Sonic Blast (Su): An alpha blogg can fire a wave of concentrated sound from the pores on its armored head. This is a ranged touch attack with a range of sixty feet. The sound blast deals 2d8 points of sonic damage and forces creatures smaller than the blogg to succeed at a reflex save (DC 30) or be stunned for one round. The save DC is constitution based. |

| Return of the Flumph09-14-07, 08:22 PM | I will continue to bump this thread until it gets PEACHed. |
| Xanaphia_Undomiel09-14-07, 08:59 PM | Awesome! |
| LivingShadow09-15-07, 05:23 PM | I would make the Alpha blogg have DR 10/adamantine and natural armor +13 instead of Natural armor +20. From what I remember these things weren't that hard to hit but took damage less easily. |

From what I remember these things weren't that hard to hit but took damage less easily. I think you may be confusing them with a different monster. Bloggs were nearly impossible to hit, but died pretty fast (two or three charge shots) if you could manage to bypass the armor (by hitting them in the mouth). I interpret that as having very high natural armor. |

| DebiHuman09-17-07, 10:01 AM | Aren't they called "Skultera" in the game? Plus, they have eyes, just no pupils and the eyes are red. Or am I confusing these with another fish monster? Note: I haven't played the game just surfed the web for some info on it. Debby |
| Return of the Flumph09-17-07, 10:43 AM | Skultera might be the Super Metroid ones. "Blogg" is the name of the creature that appears in Metroid Echoes, where they very clearly lack eyes. Either way, I didn't stat them as blind, on the assumption that they have other senses that function in a similar manner as vision. Statwise, it makes no difference. |
