| mage_guy06-20-06, 12:29 PM | I realize that this might have come before, but I've not found any guidelines to update DR. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place. Nevertheless, I'm going to ask, and hopefully get some answers. 1. When updating DR, obviously #/+# means DR #/magic. But what about monsters that had DR 10/+3. Certianly that can't mean just magic bypasses the updated DR, right? 2. if a creature has DR/magic does that require a weapon to have a magical enhancement bonus (an actual +1 for example), or can it have a magical quality that is equal to a +1 bonus? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. ~RM |

Certianly that can't mean just magic bypasses the updated DR, right? - In 3.5, DR X/Magic covers all enhancement bonuses from +1 to +5 (+6 and higher being considered DR X/Epic). So a monster that, in 3.0, had DR 10/+4 in 3.5 has DR 10/Magic. 2. if a creature has DR/magic does that require a weapon to have a magical enhancement bonus (an actual +1 for example), or can it have a magical quality that is equal to a +1 bonus? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. ~RM - It absolutely has to have at least a +1 enhancement bonus to be able to bypass DR/Magic. However, ALL magical weapons have to have at least a +1 enhancement bonus to be able to get magical qualities. |
| Callahan06-20-06, 01:10 PM | 1. DR/+3 = DR/Magic 2. here are no weapons with a magical property that do not have at least a +1 enchantment. |

| mage_guy06-20-06, 04:07 PM | Perhaps I phrased my question improperly. My fault. My second question should have been phrased as such: Would a keen shortsword bypass DR/Magic, or does it actually have to have a +1 bonus (i.e. a +1 keen shortsword) to bypass said DR. Sorry for the confusion...or my thick headedness. And thanks again. ~RM |

Thus you must have a +1 keen shortsword. Which sort of answers the question... |
| grachus2306-23-06, 03:00 PM | While it's true that DR/Magic covers any bonuses from +1 to +5, I think common sense needs to applied, as well. There is a monster called a Vorr in the Fiend Folio which can assume a Shadow Form. In shadow form it enjoys DR 50/+5. Well, clearly what they mean is that it is almost impossible to damage in shadow form. I don't think a +1 weapon is what they had in mind. Since the beast is chaotic, and from the Abyss, IIRC, I gave it DR 50/Cold Iron. |
