In the back of the monster manual, it lists the damage reduction special quality as (Ex or Su), but I have not been able to find anyplace where it details what kinds of DR are Ex and which ones are Su. Could somebody help me out, or tell me where to look? Thanks a ton!

The main difference between the two is that an extraordinary ability is non-magical and a supernatural ability has a magical origin. So if the damage reduction can be explained in a "mechanical way", then it's (Ex), if not, it is (Su). One exemple would be skeletons. They have DR 5/bludgeonning because they lack flesh or internal organs that would normally be affected by piercing or slashing damage. It isn't magical, so it must be (Ex). For dragons and magical beasts, DR probably comes from magic, so it's probably (Su). I don't have any reference to give you, since it is only my opinion, but I hope that helps.

My understanding is that material & type (peircing, bludgeoning, slashing) DRs are EX

DRs of Magic or alignment are supernatural

in short: If you can still bypass that DR in an anti-magic field, it's EX (attack and defense match in beign non-magical)

Otherwise, it's SU (can't bypass it in an anti magic field, but it looses it in an anti-magic field anyway)

I read somewhere that

1) slashing, piercing, bludgeoning, adamantine are EX

2) silver, cold-iron, magic, good, evil, lawful, chaotic, epic are SU

but I can't remeber where. (makes sense, though, if you want my opinion).

It's in the FAQ. That's where they clarified which DRs are Ex and which are Su.
