| RavinRay09-11-06, 09:00 AM | THE DRACODEX Welcome to my Dracodex, or the Index of Dragons. In keeping with the theme of this Year of Dragons, I've started this thread that lists all dragons found in official D&D sources, as well as dragons created by the members of WotC message boards. The index is divided into two parts. The first part consists of this post. Only creatures with the dragon type are listed, along with dragon-only templates; this excludes creatures with the dragonblood subtype, draconic races, and the like. This also excludes dragons found in sources published by licensees of Wizards of the Coast other than Paizo Publishing (http://paizo.com/) (publishers of Dragon (http://paizo.com/dragon) and Dungeon (http://paizo.com/dungeon) magazines) though the same authors may have contributed to a related, Wizards-published sourcebook. For example, the draconians of the Dragonlance Campaign Setting are included because it is published by Wizards, but the dragons of Bestiary of Krynn (http://www.dragonlance.com/products/SVP-4801.aspx) which is published by Sovereign Press are not even though both books are official gamebooks for the Dragonlance campaign set in the world of Krynn. The second part lists those dragons that have been fully statted by various members elsewhere in this board (and only on this board, not dragons posted in other boards). Ideas, concepts, and suggestions for new dragons are not included here; there is already a thread, "Any ideas for some new dragons?...", that exists for that purpose, and I want the two threads to be distinct. As such, this list will be updated with contributions from those who want their homebrew dragons included. To add your dragon to the list, add a post with a link to your dragon, with a brief description. You do not have to re-post the entire dragon. Once I've verified the post, I'll add an entry to the list. It is possible for two or more dragons from different contributors to share the same name; the dragons will be listed by author. The purpose of this index is to provide both newbies and vets a comprehensive list of officially published dragons, as well to see what contributions others have made, in case a dragon you have in mind is similar to one already existing. Enjoy! :dragon: OFFICIAL DRAGONS TRUE DRAGONS Most dragons of the Prime Material Plane have innate sorcerous spellcasting abilities, though there are notable exceptions like the gem dragons (which have innate psionic abilities), and lung dragons (with numerous spell-like abilities). Some dragons can also cast spells from the clerical spell list and specific clerical domains as arcane spells; these are all metallic dragons, red and blue dragons, and some others. | RavinRay09-11-06, 09:01 AM | NEW DRAGONS The second part of the Dracodex lists those dragons that were created members of the D&D boards. They are grouped by author, along with a brief description of their abilities and what sources were used for inspiration. If you want to include your dragons, provide me a link to the posts of your dragons, and tell me in general what book you used to create the dragons. RavinRay's dragons Aquatic true dragons These are aquatic members of the chromatic, gem, and metallic dragons families. I have since updated them in-house into nine species (three per family), and changed their spell-like and spellcasting abilities Aquamarine dragon Quicksilver dragon Sepia dragon Subpsionic gem dragons These are derived from the Legend of Sarior (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20030124a) series of articles in the psionic column on the D&D website, The Mind's Eye (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/archive.asp?x=dnd/psi,3), and the subpsionics (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/pse/20021025a) article. Their first incarnation was a mix of 3.0 and 3.5 rules, and their psionic abilities were from psionics rules of the original 3.0 Psionics Handbook. | The Vorpal Tribble09-11-06, 12:09 PM | I don't do many dragons, but here are a couple: Lesser Dragons - Barkstrone (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=5462339#post5462339) - Plaskamn (Blackwater Dragon) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=9469536#post9469536&origin=) |
| RavinRay10-22-06, 07:46 PM | Just made some corrections to the ssvaklors (they're winged after all), and added the fiendish rage drake. Say Vorpal Tribble, didn't you make a dragon uncarnate? |
| HolyGrenadeFrenzy11-08-06, 10:13 PM | I may have missed it but the Dweanomnivore? It is a dragon after all. |
| Kothardarastrix11-09-06, 02:28 PM | Think you're missing the Celestial Dragon. |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht11-09-06, 03:24 PM | Scalamagdrions have wings. |
| RavinRay12-08-06, 02:28 AM | Just added the dweomervore (a dragon that metabolizes magical energy) from Waterdeep. |
| benstundze12-12-06, 12:16 AM | make it all a list at the top post |
| Kothardarastrix12-12-06, 03:59 AM | This is the second thread where you've done this, at least try to type correctly. This isn't one of those instant messengers or two-bit 1337 speak boards, people from all over the world are active on this board, you have a spell checker so use it. |
| benstundze12-12-06, 04:11 PM | ok. |
| RavinRay12-16-06, 08:13 AM | Added three dragons: the Gorynych from Lost Empires of Faerūn, a winged dragon with three heads and seven tails; the spelleater, a Huge flightless quadruped; and the velroc, a wyvern-type dragon, both from Dragon Magic. |
| benstundze03-22-07, 04:08 PM | :bump: :) |
| HolyGrenadeFrenzy03-22-07, 04:17 PM | Added three dragons: the Gorynych from Lost Empires of Faerūn, a winged dragon with three heads and seven tails; the spelleater, a Huge flightless quadruped; and the velroc, a wyvern-type dragon, both from Dragon Magic. The Dweanomnivore from Dragon Magazine "?" (I will be back with it) is an excellent addition IMO. I really would like the return of the Hybrid rules. |
| 42003-22-07, 04:18 PM | I didn't see the Hellfire Wyrm from MM2 (pg. 125) listed. Despite the fact that they didn't give it age categories I consider is a Planar True Dragon in my campaigns. -420 |
| Angelflesh03-22-07, 06:16 PM | Are you going to include dragons from third party sources? |
| benstundze03-22-07, 06:35 PM | second post............ |
| Angelflesh03-22-07, 06:47 PM | You're not supposed to bump a topic more than once in one day, or was it 48 hours? Either way. |
| benstundze03-22-07, 06:53 PM | You're not supposed to bump a topic more than once in one day, or was it 48 hours? Either way. i didnt |
| RavinRay03-22-07, 07:06 PM | I didn't see the Hellfire Wyrm from MM2 (pg. 125) listed. Despite the fact that they didn't give it age categories I consider is a Planar True Dragon in my campaigns. It's listed among the quadrupedal winged dragons. And yes, while it is listed as a lesser dragon in the dragon index of Draconomicon, it is also listed as the planar dragon of Baator in the sidebar in Dragon #344. As I speculated in other threads, I suspect it was originally meant to be a planar true dragon, because at Todd Lockwood's website there's a nearly identically-drawn dragon named the hellfire dragon (with a tiefling rider) that was supposed to grace the cover of a magazine (Dragon?) and I guessed that it was nerfed into the hellfire wyrm of Monster Manual II. But it is possible to rewrite the hellfire wyrm into a true dragon for the 3.5 edition; after all, the MM II was 3.0 (notwithstanding the 3.5 update booklet). There is precedence for this: the phaerimm had only a single age category in Monsters of Faerūn, but in the Player's Guide to Faerūn 3.5 update for MoF PDF, it had more (six IIRC) age categories. |
| Angelflesh03-22-07, 07:13 PM | i didnt The what is this? second post............ |
| benstundze03-22-07, 07:30 PM | The what is this? the anser to your question ben |
| Angelflesh03-22-07, 08:33 PM | Oh, well i was asking about third party dragons, not user created ones. Where did you get that idea? Also, if you are going to refer me to a previous post, be a little more clear about who you are talking too, and where you are telling them to go. By the way, the use of a dozen or so periods isn't very necessary even if you didn't throw them all in there to make me look stupid. |
| Orchomenos03-30-07, 11:28 AM | Look at Enworld (http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/). There are many converted 2nd edition dragons, many of them with age categories. They have: Amber, Cobra, Adamantite, Cloud, Mercury, Mist, Yellow, & Jacinth. |
| GraeGor03-31-07, 11:39 AM | Didnt see the Greyhawk Dragon from Living Greyhawk Journal |
| RavinRay03-31-07, 12:29 PM | Unless it's a different dragon, then it's already listed as the steel aka Gryehawk dragon. |
| DivineChaos7805-15-07, 07:11 PM | question, my brother and I are in abit of a tiff. we're trying to find out if the sunwyrm is a "True Dragon" or not. please help me understand if it is and if it is not. |
| RavinRay05-15-07, 07:22 PM | Nope, the sunwyrm is a lesser dragon. It also has eight legs :twitch: , unusual for a dragon (though multi-headed and multi-tailed dragons like the gorynych are not?). When I get more details about the ferrous dragons in Dragon #356 (http://paizo.com/dragon/products/issues/2007/356) I'll add them to the index. |
| bhu05-20-07, 02:17 AM | Bump for awesomeness :bump: |
| RavinRay06-03-07, 08:37 PM | Added the ferrous dragons and sea linnorm from Dragon 356. |
| Ghauldin09-07-07, 03:41 AM | A thread par excellence bump. |
| RavinRay09-07-07, 07:02 PM | Thanks for the compliment; but, come June 2008 when the 4E Monster Manual comes out, this is gonna start to feel outdated and obsolete. :P NOT! Heck, I had fun doing this. And we're still converting dragons to 3E over at EN World. |
| Novem09-07-07, 07:34 PM | http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=914555 This is my contribution. |

| RavinRay02-05-08, 07:55 AM | Added the three-headed dzalmus from the Forgotten Realms' hoardlands in Dragon 349. |
