This confused me a little, but maybe I'm just reading stuff wrong.
In the preview for the dracotaur it says it has Armor proficiency (light) and Iron will as feats.

In the dracotaurs as characters section it says they get 2 feats and are automatically proficient with light armor. Am I misunderstanding or is the top part a feat short?

Using only the preview version (I dont know if it has changed, dont have MM3 yet :(), it looks like a misprint. The dracotaur has 3HD and so is only entitled to 2 feats, and they should not be automatically proficient with light armour.

...

Unless, of course, they're doing the 'proficient with whatever equipment is listed in their description' thing...

I think this is what is causing the confusion. Either the Armour Proficiency feat isnt needed, or the character section is wrong.

So the feat count is right and they aren't supposed to be proficient with Light armor or they are proficient, but are a feat short. I'll check it when I get MM3. Mebbe it changed or got clarified. Or perhaps it'll eventually show up in the errata.

some monster types get armor feats, or have a line saying that a creature listed with armor is automatically proficient with that armor.

It's listed the same way in the print version, so they didn't change anything.

The dracotaur is of the Dragon type, and Dragons are not proficient in any sort of armor, whatsoever. Only Humanoids, Giants, Monstrous Humanoids, Elementals, Fey, Outsiders, and Undead are proficient in whatever armor they are listed as wearing. All other are not proficient in armor at all.

... the Dracotaur (sans fluff) is highly reminiscent of the the spelljammer Dracon.

You can take any monster and make it seem that way compared to at least one other kind of monster. lol

Even so, the character entry part says it is proficient and every rule has exceptions.
Of course, that is very useful info either way. Thanx! :D
(The list of types with those proficiencies that is...)

And of the Trogodon from Creature Collection 1 (though they're more "crocotaurs" with a croco head than draconic centaurs).

yeah, but the dracotaur (sans fluff) is a dead ringer for the Dracon ... *see Gez's post below*

... you are correct though *wolf still wants some update books (96 pgs or so) for the older campaign settings ... and no the dragon/dungeon mag's don't quite cut it*

Go for Creature Collection Revised, not CC1. Best you take the 3.5 updated book, as the 3.0 was disgraced by bogus rules and crappy art; two problems that have been fixed in CCR.

And there's a CC3 also, it's kinda nifty, I even contributed one monster to it! And two monsters for the upcoming CC4; which I think will be the last of the series.
