In the game I am dm'ing, one of my players keeps asking if there is a way to get a dragon as a companion of sorts. Is there a way to do this perhaps with the Leadership feat or something? Is it described in any book about anything like this?

Draconomicon contains the answers you seek.

You can get a dragon cohort by using the leadership feat. All you have to do is have a sufficiently high leadership score to attract a cohort of the dragons ECL (Remeber ECL = HD + LA). The LA's of the dragons are given in the MM.

or, if ALL you an tis the companion, there is a feat for gainign jsut a companion who is a dragon, but their ECl is considered 3 lower for purposes of determingin how powerful your dragon companion can be. You gain no other followers.

think of it as a specialised version of the Leadershiop feat tha tonly grants you a dragon cohort, so gives a small boost to the cohort's potential power.

When you player plays a wizard there is also the possibility of a dragon familiar. And as cleric he can take a PRC which grants him a dragon companion.

For both options see the Draconomicon.
