Dragon Cross-breeds? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-18-06, 01:11 PM Does anyone know an unofficial or official source on what the child of two dragons of different types would be like?

Specifically the child of a Red and Gold dragon.

It says in the Draconomicon that the results of such a birth are usually killed by their parents. But what would one be like if he managed to grow up?

08-18-06, 04:17 PM The Slayer Guide to Dragons has some rules on dragon crossbreeds if I remember right but only within the same type (metallic/chromatic)

Metallic-chromatic crossbreeds are not detailed in there. It seems you have to make something up yourself.
As reds and golds are very similiar (fire subtype, size,...) just take the average of the two for the stats a mix of special abilities and a cosmetic change.

While waiting for search to be re-implemented on the boards, I suggest do an advanced Google search for "hybrid dragons" or "crossbreed dragons" for the URL boards1.wizards.com as this is a topic that recurs frequently.

08-19-06, 03:20 AM lol. a red dragon mates with a silver dragon. Thus the baby dragon dies becuse its not immune to its own breath attack and dies from the inside out. probably what would happen to 1/4 or 1/2 of the dragons that mate with dragons of oposit energy types.

pluse the sex would hurt.

08-19-06, 05:56 AM Personally I think the offspring would end up as a Half-Dragon Dragon. Using the mother's color as the base, with the father's being the color added on via the template.

08-19-06, 06:01 AM The problem is that because the two dragons are so close together power wise a half dragon dragon will end upm beeing more powerfull then the original dragon. If that fits into your campaign (mixed dragons beeing stronger then pure dragons) then there is no problem.

08-19-06, 11:13 AM That thing is sick: crossbreeds stronger than both halves together. Phew! But it´s the way things work. I got used to it by doing some chars like that.

08-19-06, 12:12 PM Yeah, they're strong, but the odds that one would actually come into the world are relatively slim. Metallic dragons would have personality clashes, they really wouldn't be attracted to one another. Chromatic females would find the idea of mating with a 'lesser' dragon abhorant and fight to avoid it. Plus there isn't much natural territory cross in the two categories. Odds are the most likely scenario would be a male Chromatic forcing himself upon a female Metallic, who would more then likely destroy the tainted eggs.
