| Shrinks03-22-07, 07:31 PM | Hello, just wanting the PCs to find a dragon's nest after defeating one, and have them take an egg or too. MM I doesn't say anything about this, but how big, what colour would a dragon's egg be? How long to hatch? If they wanted to sell them, how much would someone pay for such a marvelous animal? |
| Dunamin03-23-07, 01:48 AM | Its all in the Draconomicon, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to post that information here, due to copyrights. |
| Derren S.03-23-07, 11:10 AM | If they wanted to sell them, how much would someone pay for such a marvelous animal? Next to nothing. Even if the hatchling is still alive (unlikely) they are, because of their racial memory, extremly hard to controll. Don't forget, dragons are not animals but sentient beings which are normally smarter than humans (even right after birth). |
| DrMorganes03-23-07, 11:43 AM | According to the Draconomicon, removing a dragon egg from its nest will almost always result in the death of the unhatched dragon. Rules are given for what skill checks are required to actually keep the egg viable until it hatches. In a nutshell, each type of dragon egg varies in size (proportionate to the size of the parent; white eggs are the smallest; red eggs the largest) and must be kept in an environment appropriate to its type. Black dragon eggs, if memory serves, must be kept immersed in acid able to do at least 1d6 points of damage per round. Tending an egg cannot be done properly while adventuring. For more specifics on the official rules you'll need a copy of the book. It's not part of the OGL. |

| Shadow81003-23-07, 05:36 PM | when a dragon is slain what is worth taking. besides the treasure of course. |
| malignor03-23-07, 06:42 PM | Hide For armor. Anything. For trophies. |

Even if he/she doesn't have the power to raise it yet, it would be awsome for decorative perposes. Also, dragon parts can be used for draconic grafts and creating magic items. Try to keep the eggs in the right temperature/environment that you found it. If you can hatch them you might be able to sway them from its evil tendencies or sell them to someone who can or doesn't care. Even if the young die, I'm sure there is some magic school that needs exotic beast bodies to disect. |

The effort of transporting the skelleton would be higher than the reward. Draconic grafts must come from an unhatched wyrmling. Thats a use for the eggs but because the wyrmling is so fragil you need to know beforhand where a dragongrafter lives before killing the dragon, otherwise the hatchlings wouldn't be fresh enough anymore by the time you find one. Magic items are an idea, but the raw meterial isn't worth much. Hatching them is very hard and swaying them from their evil ways impossible unless you employ magic. Selling them is also nearly impossible because of the draconic intelligence and power. Buyers capable and willing to raise a dragon would be very rare. And no, there are no magic shools who need bodies to dissect. Illusions can provide such a opportunity much cheaper. |

| ank03-29-07, 09:15 PM | You could sell the eggs theoretically, but it would take a very rich patron to buy it. More likely, the PC's might try to raise the dragons, which would cause the problems outlined in the draconomicon. I believe I can safely tell you that for incubation the eggs have to be kept in their element or they risk certain death (water, fire, ice, etc). If you are serious about this, I do recomend the draconomicon. It is an exellent source. |
