Dragon Meat? [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-28-03, 01:39 PM We now have rules for wearing thier skin, stabbing people with thier claws, and drinking thier blood.

But shouldn't there be some effect from eating draconic meat? Yeah, its digusting to eat the flesh of another sentient, but since we're already drinking their blood, I don't see a problem.

My theory is that with all the chemical reactions going on in a dragon's body to generate a breath weapon, dragon meat would be nearly pickled -- and have an effect akin to strong drink.

Any thoughts?

11-28-03, 02:34 PM It would certainly make sense to have red dragon blood or red dragon meat be a component in a potion of fire breathing or a potion of fire resistance, for example.

You could also take a queue from the BoED and BoVD and make some other less common dragon components (meat, brain, heart, etc) act as optional additional spell components, providing various modifications to a spell you are casting.

There's a very informative part on dragon meat, including how to correctly prepare them(only the meat of evil dragon though) and even how they taste.

Gold supposedly taste like the finest venisson and bronze taste like chicken.

Black and Green need to be soaked in vinegar overnight, Red aged then exposed to air for at least two days etc. etc.

Black and Green taste like swamp mud, Reds are extra spicy(the 2 day long heartburn kind of extra spicy)And Blues are said to have an unbearable bad taste which makes them uneatable.

11-28-03, 08:58 PM Interesting. Everything tastes like chicken. hehe. I wondere how much a dragon steak would cost at a fine restaurant. Only fine places would have it, given the likely hood of a dragon offering itself up as your dinner.

Hehe. Some how I doubt it, but it makes for laughs. I like the idea of getting drunk by eating dragon meat. And if you get it from inside the chest or throat, it is already cooked. Saves you the trouble. either that or it would be impossible to cook.:confused:

I'm reminded of an episode of Slayers where they kill a dragon for a rare delecacy but find out it takes three weeks to cook the simplest of dishes with dragon.

Plus using magic to kill the thing ruined the meat right off the bat.

Heh, I'd pay to see some non-epics try to take a Wyrm with no magic. :devil:

11-29-03, 08:34 PM Just throw an axe weilding dwarf down it's throat. That worked for my group when a great red suddenly appeared. One of the first things that got busted in the dragonwas its ability to breath fire. And some how the dwarf survived. Granted he was so scarred he lost to points to charisma.

"Let 'em eat Grandpa?"

"Would you rather the orcs did it?!

"Start digging the fire pit. I'll start mixing the marinade."

11-30-03, 03:22 AM dragons don't really get sick. They might go crazy, but that isn't contagious, so the only plague goin around would be salmonella from the dragons not knowing how to cook. They usually eat their food raw.

My PCs did that one, put a ring of regenration on a pig. They toyed with awakening him so he'd be the pig of Eden, but the Druid would have no part of it.

"In this case, sir, you want a low flame. That way the meat will cook through before the outer parts char. I think your Aunt Edna would appreciate seeing all of her body getting ingested instead of half of it being turned into charcoal while the other other is left raw."

12-01-03, 04:27 AM First you need to pull off all the scales. Otherwise you are just wasting time trying to cook him. TO remove the scales you will need several pry bars since they will break after 4 or 5 scales. While you do this I will dig a large pit to cook him in.

How long do you think it would take to properly cook a dragon, and would redsa cook faster or slower?

12-01-03, 04:47 AM Were it one of my dragons de-scaling would go a bit easier. On the world of Dragon Earth dragon scales are more like feathers than traditional dragon scales. But 'feathers' much stronger than rhino hide or the wood of an ebony tree.

But, once the critter's dead it becomes a simple matter of plucking the scales; though that can get tedious, especially with a particularly large specimen. Something some folks would much rather not have to go through.

A green dragon had this to say on the subject, "You want to know what my Uncle Harold tastes like you will pluck his corpse. I will not tolerate seeing him get butchered before he gets butchered."
