Dragon natural attacks weak? [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-26-03, 09:55 PM So, I've only DMed dragons three times. Each time it seemed their natural attacks weren't very damaging.

Obivously their breath weapons were nasty, but those could be warded against. Their spells were nasty, and their buffs were nasty ... but it still seemed to me that a dragon's melee capabilities fall well short of its other abilities.

Thoughts?

12-26-03, 11:06 PM The older the dragon, the more likely they will hit with each & every attack, so any 1 attack doesn't need to do much damage in comparison.

You can offset this with the Improved Natural Attack feat, however...

Also, don't forget to add the Str mod to each hit!

It works well, I've seen it used effectively even against PCs with stoneskin.

12-27-03, 01:38 AM Or give your dragon a few levels of Monk (if Lawful). Monk damage for their size might exceed their natural damage, and they always use the better of the two. Not to mention, the bonus to saves, movement, extra feats, and WS to AC make them hard to beat. At +1CR/LV, nothing buffs a dragon physically like a Monk (and possibly nothing else could buff them more).
