Dragon question. [Archive] - Wizards Community

When you read about dragons, they always have a few levels in sorcerer to cast some spells. I was wondering if there were any rules on changing the character levels of a dragon from sorcerer, to say...fighter?
Ive heard that there are rules for playing dragons as pc's so my question doesnt seem too far fetched. If it is possible, are there any changes to challenge ratings?

11-30-05, 02:35 PM Dragons normally don't have sorcerer levels, they get spellcasting as natural ability when they age.

11-30-05, 02:52 PM Alright, true enough. Im running a story with a dragon that has very little spell casting ability, but more than makes up in hi fighting prowess. I wanted to swap out alot of his spells for some feats and make him a little more melee capable.
Not that there are any dragons that arent melee capable.

What you describe fits exactly to the Fang dragon (Draconomicon or Magic of Faerun). Little spellcasting but a lot of fighting power.

What you describe fits exactly to the Fang dragon (Draconomicon or Magic of Faerun). Little spellcasting but a lot of fighting power.

Fang Dragons are exactly what you're looking for, unless you absolutely need a chromatic. Used them with desastrous results in the past. Though dragon for it's CR.

12-01-05, 08:54 PM There are quite a few Dragon types to suite your need. Also, consider that all chromatic dragons as well as Blue and Red dragons also, have the clerics spell list even though they cast them as arcane spells. So a nice pre-fight buffed dragon can be the combat monster you're looking for.
