| Ike196506-30-03, 04:48 PM | Is there any ability, magic item, epic or otherwise that allows a dragon to change his breath weapon ability type? If not, how would one go about making such an item, ability, etc? Thanks |
| Jagyr Ebonwood06-30-03, 04:59 PM | not that i know of... and making it, well, that depends: are you a PC or a DM? if you're a PC, you have to make Craft checks and whatnot... a DM just wills it so, and lo, it is:D |
| Ike196506-30-03, 05:05 PM | I'm a DM, but I like to be fair. I might just take that obvious path though. :D |
| WombleHunter06-30-03, 05:54 PM | Nah, you don't wanna do that. You wanna make the dragon cast spells so it looks like it uses a different energy type, so the PCs prepare incorrectly. |

Well, that's where the NPC, which is setting up this trap for the PCs, who is also helping the dragon, is for. The NPC is going to tell them that it is a green dragon, and it is, it will just have a different breath weapon, and I was looking to find a magic item or something that it could possess that would change it. Either way I guess it doesn't matter, they are going to be ill prepared when they get around to making themselves resistant or immune to acid. :D |
| eclipticavatar06-30-03, 09:56 PM | So you have plans of killing off your entire party? |
| Ike196506-30-03, 10:51 PM | Nope, just making sure I challenge them... |
| WizO_Snark07-01-03, 10:14 AM | Moved to the Monsters Lair. Happy posting. :) |
| Ike196507-01-03, 11:18 AM | Oops, my bad, thanks. |
| Jefepato07-01-03, 11:45 AM | Couldn't the dragon cast change self and appear to be a different dragon type than it is? |
| Ike196507-01-03, 12:07 PM | I guess that could be one way of doing it. |
| Hammerclaw07-01-03, 01:56 PM | You might want to check out the 'Wyrms of the North' series of articles on the Forgotten Realms portion of the WotC website. The are reprinting the classing arctiles from Dragon Magazine, but giving 3rd edition stats for the dragons and some of the more famous spells and magic items these dragons use. I thought there was one spell in that series that might just do what you are talking about. Skip that. I must be nuts. I looked through there and can't find a spell to that effect. Maybe I read it in 2nd edition. |
| Sondur Dragonbane07-01-03, 01:57 PM | Well the Magic of Faerun has something called a Dragon Draught. Only dragons can use them and it is similar to a Potion of Fire Breath but is only useable once, is keyed to a certain dragon (ieblue draught=lightning breath, etc.) and is much more powerful. |

Black dragons are the ones who breathe acid. |
| paintedmask207-01-03, 06:29 PM | I think that's why the silly players will be ill-preparedhttp://www.geocities.com/leaves_or/paintedlol.txt |
| Ike196507-01-03, 06:45 PM | Originally posted by Vanigo Uh, green dragons breathe poison, not acid. Black dragons are the ones who breathe acid. Unless they are changing it for 3.5 you are incorrect. Trust me I know my dragons. :D Direct from the SRD: "Breath Weapon (Su): A green dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of corrosive (acid) gas." |
| Nab07-01-03, 09:00 PM | Only dragons can use dragon draughts?!?! Hmm. That's weird. Give the dragon the shapechange spell. |
| Twilly07-02-03, 12:03 PM | Red Dragon casts change self or alter self (or a spell like that) and changes his colour to white. This way he will see a lot of fireballs coming (which can't hurt him/her). Don't forget few bluff checks to pretend that the Meteor Swarm did really hurt. |
| Archmage of Netheril07-02-03, 04:00 PM | Have a red Dragon take character class levels as a Archmage. Energy subsitution his breath weapon to Cold. Then polymorph self to white dragon. With good bluff checks to pretend fire spells hurt him.devil: All indecations point that he is a white dragon:smirk: Until its to late............................ |
