Dragon Sleep? [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-19-04, 11:44 AM Do dragons in D&D need to sleep? If so, how much, and how easy is it to sneak up on one who is doing so? Does their blindsense, for example, still work?

Official answers or rampant speculation welcome.

01-19-04, 12:17 PM Yes and no it is all up to you. Which isn't really an answer at all is it. Of course maybe you are not the DM then it is all up to him.

2. No, unless it's a very young dragon, it's not easy to sneak up on one. Because of traps, guardians, alarm spells and all the other nifty stuff that let the dragon know whenever someone gets to near to his lair entrance

And while it would be about as easy to sneak by a sleeping dragon as a sleeping human, just remember, any sufficiently aged dragon is going to have so many traps and alarms in his lair that the chances of you catching it asleep are next to nill. If nothing else, a contingency spell to cast an alarm whenever a living being larger than Tiny enters the lair would work.
