Please let me know if this belongs in another thread... this is my first time posting.
In a game I'm currently playing in, the group of hero-types have managed to talk themselves into taking on a black dragon of Very Old-ish catagory if not a little bigger. The PCs are 14th level. Leaving aside the idea of how we got into the situation and why not just not do it, I'd like some creative advice on dragon whacking.
The party is composed of a fighter, a monk with minor spellcasting abilities, 2 wizards (an evocer and an illusionist) and an arcane trickster. Again all party members are 14th. Spell wise, assume generally anything from the core book can be found. We should have some prep time.
Looking for generally just ideas/tactics that you geniuses seem to find work well.

Very Old? That will be hard as it is CR 18.
Your party is very caster heavy so you might have a chance. The SR shouldn't be a problem.

Try to fight it in a closed space where the dragon can't fly (or barely). When its has it full manzverability, it can simply snatch and carry away the caster one by one.

With three caster, there are likely some crazy spell combos possible which makes this fight a cackwalk like shooting empowered enervations at the dragon as soon as you can.
What are the forbidden schools of the wizard?
