| Qit el-Remel03-09-04, 02:57 AM | Originally posted by gradea Im curious as to what themes (energies, powers, 1968 fords) you all have thought of to base a dragon around? id like to get a list togeather...cause im really bored and in the mood to make progressions. What do you mean by "base it around"? Do you mean as in my fire-and-acid "cinder dragons" (I never finished writing 'em up, dammit...) or as in draconic characters in my games? There's Hezjingmirithaujir, who's the king of a good-aligned nation in my setting. Being a bronze, he's often seen near water. However, the fact that he's a dragon isn't widely known, since he's usually polymorphed into human (or occasionally other humanoid) form. A good rule of thumb is that in Velakhura, one should not pick fights with men whom one encounters near large bodies of water and who look like Doc Savage. There's Aurandhaewryll, who's really too young to have made much of a name for herself. She wanders in and out of towns in the form of a tomboyish blond child, and is often encountered out in the wilderness as such. Much to her dismay, she's often told that little kids shouldn't be wandering around the woods—ironically enough, her presence makes the woods safer for the actual "little kids." Then, there's the crimelord Vaerdalazhuryon—who's not a full-blooded dragon, but a creature whose hybrid heritage makes him ideally suited for his vocation. Avaricious, vain, and ruthless, this blue-scaled schemer has managed to keep his true nature hidden from almost everyone, thanks to both his skill at manipulation and his inborn magic talents. He's earned himself quite a few enemies along the way...but they may find themselves being stepped on as "Lord Azureclaw" furthers his ambitions. -Qit |
| gradea03-09-04, 03:01 PM | more indepth i had just ment a kind of creature (gold dragons being loosely fire dragons and the like), but to be honest those specific ones you wrote up seem interesting...mabye i should start a specific post for that. |
| Lankin the Mad Mage03-10-04, 08:48 AM | Well there are three: 1) Quite a hile ago I came across aPositive Energy Dragon on these boards, and ever since I've wanted a negative energy counterpart. So: Negative energy dragon 2)Pseudonatural dragon. Would proably be best is R.M.G.C.L.F. made it up, though. He seems to be the resident expert on the Far Realms and it's inhabitants. 3) Mechanus dragons. Look like it's made up of little cogwheels and springs and stuff, but is just a very different-looking dragon camouflaged like the plane so it can hunt better. |
| gradea03-10-04, 10:15 PM | shadow dragon is pretty close, but actually im working on a Neather Dragon (warcraft three, what can i say, too addicting)...though thats also to test a new dragon type (the types are lesser, intermediate, greater, and epic, im making one between epic and greater.) (by the way the neather plane is a confluence of the negitive energy plane and the plane of shadow... Working on it, check my post, im trying to get a group togeather for it...i only got one reply so far, look for my post if you want to help also working on it, another of my in between a epic and a greater dragon. its good to see someone else posted, keep the ideas coming guys |

| gradea03-10-04, 10:57 PM | WOOD VENOM MAGMA TEMPORAL NEATHER (SHADOW/NEGATIVE) HELLFIRE SPIKED DRAKE (Progressed as a Dragon) MECHANUS HOLY PROFANE FAERIE (True Progression) PESUDO (True Progression) PESUDONATURAL OPAL (Fire and Magic) PLATINUM (As bahemut) JADE (Earth) ONE PER PLANE MITHRAL (Positive Energy) ROT/DECAY DISORDER (Chaos) PATERN (Law) |
| Doberfuhr03-11-04, 03:42 AM | Every major plane of existence in the Multiverse should have a particular dragon associated with it in order to reflect the 'dragon' as one of the common denominators of all D&D worlds. Oh, and you omitted the Bytopian Adamantine Dragon (Planes of Conflict boxed set). The ancient Blue Dragon Teslor (Planes of Law) of Acheron is also another fascinating potential villain. Apparently cursed by a deity with whom he had a slight disagreement, a fact which, if anything, is indicative of the power of this particular saurian, he was condemned to exile on an iron cube in Acheron. Moreover, he was cursed by a perpetual short-term memory loss in which at the beginning of each new day (how on Earth does one calculate that on Acheron?) he would automatically lose his memories of the day before. Thus, the wily wyrm appears to resort to inscribing the day's events with his claws on the raw metal of his cube in order to create a colossal journal in the style of that excellent film Memento. The accumulated knowledge on that cube could be very impressive indeed. Perhaps one could have Teslor fully fleshed out for Third Edition: may I suggest that he be taken as an Advanced 45 HD Great Wyrm Blue Acm 5/ Dragon Ascendant 7 |
| gradea03-11-04, 06:52 AM | acm? and i dont own the planes of conflict, ill see if i can "burrow" it from a friend  |
| Doberfuhr03-11-04, 08:41 AM | Acm would be the standard abbreviation for the Archmage prestige class. |
| Lankin the Mad Mage03-11-04, 11:39 AM | I dunno. Allways saw the Pyroclastic dragon as being the Magma dragon (at least when it first appeared in Dragon mag and had decent artwork. The art in Drac was HORRIBLE for the Pyro dragon). Also, being the spelling freak that I am, I simply must point out: - NegAtive, not NegItive - MechaNUS not NOUS - Faerie not Farie - PSEudo not PESudo Nothing personal. Just like correctness. |
| Dartanel03-11-04, 12:19 PM | When I wrote up the deities for my campaign world, each of the greater and intermediates was originally a dragon god. Therefore they each had a unique dragon type. Tarsun - Ruby Dragon (Time) Kriesen - Mithril (Positive Energy) Halo - Platinum (Similar to Bahamut, but a little different) Eigen - Opal (Fire, Raw Magic) Crescha - Jade (Earth) Maelis - Emerald (Water, Plants) |
| gradea03-11-04, 02:45 PM | i dont mind the spelling/typing corrections corrections, not that ill ever bother to improve, and to be honest i kinda feel that its spam, unless something is illegable... ahem, anyways Ruby- names already taken by a type of dragon i believe and im doing a temporal (time) kind of thing Platinum- dragon with bahemuts breath weapons? i can do that, good idea Opal-fire and raw magic? interesting...i can see a few possiblities with this... Jade- there are no pure stone dragons yet, this would be origanal Emerald- already an emerald dragon, and plant sounds alot like my wood dragon So Platinum, Opal, and Jade will now be added to the list, thanks |
| Qit el-Remel03-12-04, 04:23 AM | Originally posted by Vanigo I'd think that a good rule of thumb pretty much everywhere is that one should not pick fights with the king. But that's usually because you'll face the penalty for high treason...not the king himself. :schemes: Tick off Hezjingmirithaujir (he really needs an alias!) sufficiently, and you won't have time to worry about the penalty for high treason. He'll just turn into his true form and step on you. -Qit |
| Asta Kask03-12-04, 05:19 AM | Beverages: Coffee Dragon Tea Dragon Water Dragon Coca-Cola Dragon Jolt-Cola Dragon Gin&Tonic Dragon Whiskey Dragon Bourbon Dragon Champagne Dragon Sparkling-Wine Dragon (identical to Champagne dragon, but not from the "correct district") Ale Dragon Beer Dragon Pilsner Dragon Rum Dragon De-Caff Dragon Fighters: Messerschmidt Dragon Focke-Wulf Dragon Spitfire Dragon Hurricane Dragon Typhoon Dragon Mustang Dragon Zero Dragon MiG Dragon Yakovlev Dragon Junkers Dragon ... the possibilites are endless |
| Qit el-Remel03-12-04, 03:38 PM | Asta Kask: Not bad. But you forgot the Red Bull™ Dragon. :D -Qit |
| gradea03-13-04, 01:16 PM | mabye he just has taste? :P |
| Xas03-14-04, 05:42 AM | Asta Kask that was FUNNY :D |
| Qit el-Remel03-14-04, 05:48 AM | Originally posted by gradea mabye he just has taste? :P No...if he did, it'd be there...and the Decaf Dragon wouldn't. So there! :smirk: -Qit |
| gradea03-14-04, 05:20 PM | yeah yeah...can i just get some SERIOUS suggestions guys? :P |
| Asta Kask03-15-04, 08:26 AM | The De-Caf dragon, of course, is a weaker variant of the Coffee dragon... The Red Bull dragon is is actually not a "true" dragon, but rather a male Red Dragon/Cattle Half-dragon. Why not go with Alignment dragons? Good, Evil, Law and Chaos. A "Mana" dragon could be interesting as well. Positive and Negative energy dragons are also cool. |
| gradea03-15-04, 05:13 PM | I was already doing a Holy and Unholy for good and evil, but i can add law an chaos as well "mana" would be similar to raw energy, like the opal dragon Positive and negitive im doing already. |
| gradea03-15-04, 05:15 PM | Originally posted by Doberfuhr Oh, and you omitted the Bytopian Adamantine Dragon (Planes of Conflict boxed set). i saw the 2'nd edition planes of conflict book and didnt see that dragon, can you give me a descrpition? |
| Asta Kask03-17-04, 05:46 AM | Fruit dragons? Apple dragon Pear dragon Cherry dragon Banana dragon Kiwi dragon (found in NZ) Orange dragon (can also be a chromatic dragon, of course...) |
| Ulden Throatbane03-18-04, 03:48 AM | For an individual dragon (rather than a dragon race), one great example would be Togashi from L5R. Take any polymorphing dragon (mabye boost his life span a bit) and have him rule a kingdom or something. He's really reclusive and mysterious. He sticks to his human form, and in fact alters this form with each generation-he pretends to be his own successor. The people he rules over have no clue that they've had the same ruler since the legendary founding of their nation (which prominently features our presumed-dead dragon king). Have him provide guidance and pointers to the PCs as they go about discovering what threat to the world they have to face this time. Finally, he joins the PCs for the final battle. Just before the fight with the BBEG begins, the dragon king takes on his true form and wails into mr BBEG. While he fails to kill the badguy, he does enough damage that the PCs will be able to finish him off. |
| Primus, the One and Prime03-19-04, 05:19 PM | Teslor the Blue is in the Acheron writeup in Planes of Law not Planes of Conflict. I'm not a particularly big fan of the "Planar dragon" types. Dragons are notoriously Prime-based creatures. They are, historically, exceedingly rare on the planes. |
| Lankin the Mad Mage03-21-04, 04:17 AM | Ah, yes, god forbid anyone actually coming up with something original in the game. I like the planar dragons. Makes the game earn its name, having dragons in more than one of its dimensions. Besides, I could never run a campaign without a Shadow Dragon. |
| Asta Kask03-22-04, 04:31 AM | I thought the fruit dragons were rather original... stupid, silly, but definitely original. What about dog-breed dragons. Fear the Rottweiler dragon! Gasp at the dachshound dragon! Cuddle the poodle dragon! Or a cavy dragon. You can't beat cavies for being cute. |
| gradea03-23-04, 04:27 PM | ive begun work on the opal dragon, infact in a bit ill list whats done, more suggestions are still welcome |
| sedrickcordell03-24-04, 04:25 PM | I think they have it wrong. A dragon THEME isn't a silly crossbreed. A Dragon THEME would be something like a band of Copper Dragon rogues that rob the hordes of evil dragons. |
| gradea03-24-04, 10:15 PM | fine....dragon TYPE then, dragon IDEA, dragon what ever, you should get the picture of what i want by now, lets NOT argue samantics. now if you'll EXSCUSE me, i have more RANDOM CAPITIALIZATION to do. so GooDByE! |
| Asta Kask03-25-04, 05:38 AM | Originally posted by sedrickcordell I think they have it wrong. A dragon THEME isn't a silly crossbreed. A Dragon THEME would be something like a band of Copper Dragon rogues that rob the hordes of evil dragons. No, no. A dragon theme would be the music you play when it appears... :D Just imagine, a dragon that appears to the mighty music of "OOOPS! I did it again!" |
| Legend6703-27-04, 10:49 AM | Haha, good call, Asta Kask. H'actually, I once made a Shield Dragon, which was rather cool. But a few more ideas: -Psionic Dragons (haven't seen any, don't know if they have them or not...) -Well, if you're going with Elemental dragons, there's a nice little list from this one really old Chinese book. Fire, Water, Air, Earth, and Void. I love Void, I always make it an element in my games. -If you're not going with the classic Chinese elements, you can always add Wood, Metal, Leaf, etc. -Two "sci-fi" dragons usually seen battling aliens...Vortex Dragon and Gravity Dragon. Well, I made these once and the two of them working together made quite a nice team, even though Vortex was Metallic and Gravity was Chromatic... -Eh, hope I helped, I'm out of ideas but I'm really hungry...Bacon Dragon sounds good right now... |
| sedrickcordell03-27-04, 11:33 AM | Ok then, As a kid I always liked the one in the Neverending Story. Part 2 sucks, but the first one is still cool. I've seen dragon stats that are similar to him(I can't remember his name) but none very close. Another combinination that I might throw in my game is a Choas Dragon with the Vampiric temp. (although the party may drag me behind their cars like the dog in national lampoons on that one) |
| gradea03-28-04, 03:55 AM | ahh i remember the never ending story, problem, what the heck did that fuzzy white dragon have for powers? Chaos dragon with the vampiric template isnt a new kinda dragon now is it... :p shield dragon? thats a nick name for a silver dragon, and what powers would it have? gem dragons are psionic. Void...good idea. Wood i have, Metal works, Vortex and or Gravity...this could be interesting...ill see what i can do, thanks and asta, thats dragon theme song...and never mention britny spears in my presence agian :P |
| Legend6703-28-04, 02:47 PM | Originally posted by gradea ahh i remember the never ending story, problem, what the heck did that fuzzy white dragon have for powers? The fuzzy dragon was a luck dragon, wasn't he? That would be interesting, I can think of a few things to use him for... Originally posted by gradea shield dragon? thats a nick name for a silver dragon, and what powers would it have? The shield dragon I had made had a few interesting characteristics. It had a crest just behind it's head, but more of a bony shield than the fancy one a silver has. It had two "towers" on it's back which were quite protected, used to keep eggs and other precious items safe. They were big enough for people to ride in, if it would let you. It was able to generate defensive spells, like wall of ice or wall of force and the like. I think it spewed chunks of metal for it's breath weapon as well, but I can't remember because I lost the stat sheet I made... But yeah, it was the ultimate dragon to ride in because of it's towers. It grew larger at younger ages than other dragons, but it's actual attacks weren't as damaging...It was all defensive. As far as it's personality, think Dwarven...hmm...that's all for now, will check back later. |
| sooperspook03-29-04, 06:11 PM | Well in one campaign world i made i had dragons as primal forces of nature , so we had fire dragons, ice dragons ,storm dragons, etc... also how about dragons as primal emotions? like a Rage dragon, Love dragon, fear, hate , joy etc... ? or dragons as manifestations of philosophies? a dragons of solipsism? or rule of Law? or Anarchy? or personal transendence? |
| Asta Kask04-06-04, 05:48 AM | Oh yes...the philosophy dragons: "Well, Bruce here is a Hegelian dragon, and Bruce is an Aristotelian dragon...and Bruce here is the most important of all." "Who's he?" "He's the sheep dip dragon!" But different kinds of wood dragons could work. Bamboo dragon, teak dragon, ebenholtz dragon. Or stone dragons: Granite dragon, marble dragon, malachite dragon. |
