| Bahgtru06-06-07, 10:40 PM | I am thinking of running a campaign on a largely aquatic world where Dragon Turtles are the dominant species. They will be enormous when compared to regular dragon turtles and their power will exceed even that of Dragons. At one point there was a site running an online campaign where the dominant creature was a "greater Dragon Turtle" and had created a template for it using the 12 age categories. Would anyone remember the site it was hosted on, or know where to find the info? |
| RavinRay06-07-07, 05:58 AM | The greater dragon turtle was created for the homebrew world of Draelor, along with the platinum metallic, royal purple chromatic, and diamond gem dragons. Unfortunately, this student account (http://www.ews.uiuc.edu/~horrell/) that hosted Draelor at the University of Illinois has lapsed, presumably because the student graduated already, and I did not save the stats (which were OGC). Edit: Oh wait, I did save the greater dragon turtle stats; it's for the other three that I didn't save. How would you want them sent? |
| Radijs06-07-07, 08:59 AM | Post them here! I wouldn't mind some f-ing huge dragon turtles for my campaign. |
| Bahgtru06-07-07, 12:17 PM | If you could post them here that would be great or you could PM them to me. Thanks! |
| Bahgtru06-07-07, 02:52 PM | Post them here! I wouldn't mind some f-ing huge dragon turtles for my campaign. That is kind of how I feel. A dragon turtle that could snap a galley in half, is kind of what I am thinking of. A creature that even true Dragons respect and are in awe of. |
| Darth Sephiroth06-07-07, 07:03 PM | Ditto, I'd like to be able to use some bigger ones |
| RavinRay06-07-07, 07:30 PM | As requested, I am posting verbatim the 3.0 OGC stats of the greater dragon turtle. This creature was first described by Vince Horrell for his homebrew campaign world of Draelor. Greater Dragon Turtle Greater dragon turtles follow all the same rules as other dragons, except as noted below. One notable difference that is easy to overlook below is that, like normal dragon turtles, greater dragon turtles lack Spell Resistance and the Frightful Presence ability. Greater dragon turtles are a more powerful version of the dragon turtles that are found on other worlds. They have also developed the ability to cast spells and use spell-like abilities like most of their draconic cousins. Greater dragon turtles look almost exactly the same as normal dragon turtles, but they are significantly tougher and grow to a much larger size. Greater dragon turtles lay their eggs in sandy beaches much like normal turtles. Greater dragon turtles, however, stick around to defend their eggs from predators. Since each nest can contain upto 200 eggs, young greater dragon turtles are a common site in many areas. They are also a popular source of food for other sea creatures. Because of this, most hatchling greater dragon turtles do not survive until adulthood. However, those who do become masters of the sea. Greater dragon turtles speak Common and Draconic. Combat Greater dragon turtles enjoy treasure just as much as other dragons. They often have an easier time of obtaining it though since they can easily sneak up on passing merchant ships. Greater dragon turtles prefer to capsize passing ships and loot their treasure. Once a ship has capsized, they will often ignore its previous occupants as long as they don't try to reclaim their sunken property. Breath Weapon (Su): A cloud of superheated steam with the listed dimensions that deals the listed amount of damage. A Reflex save reduces the damage by half. The steam is effective both on the surface and underwater. Increased Damage (Ex): Because of their sharp beak and claws, greater dragon turtles deal damage as if they were one size larger. In contrast to most other dragons however, they lack wings and and their tails are too short to be used effectively in combat. Capsize (Ex): A submerged greater dragon turtle that surfaces under a boat or ship of less than half the turtle's length capsizes the vessel 95% of the time. It has a 50% chance to capsize vessels up to 1.5 times its length. A greater dragon turtle of the adult age category or older also has a 20% chance to capsize vessels longer than 1.5 times its length. Spell-like Abilities: 1/day - Obscuring Mist, Fog Cloud, Control Water, Waterspout, Maelstrom. Skills: Greater dragon turtles receive a +8 racial bonus to Hide checks when submerged. © 2002 Vince Horrell. Waterspout and maelstrom are also in Stormwrack. |
| Darth Sephiroth06-07-07, 08:44 PM | Unleashing one of those could be nice when i get around to reworking my Avantiar campaign. |
| Bahgtru06-08-07, 12:16 AM | Not quite the punch I was expecting. I will play around with them and get then up to Epic level and post what I come up with. |
| Darth Sephiroth06-08-07, 01:35 AM | Combine that with feats and you have a pretty potent monster. Especially if you use either of the stat arrays |
| RavinRay06-08-07, 01:48 AM | Some sources for ideas… Use Stormwrack for tons of aquatic resources, such as feats, spell-like abilities, etc. Use Draconomicon for draconic resources. Since the lung wang is said to be related to the dragon turtle, if you have access to its stats in Oriental Adventures, you can get ideas there. The sea dragon of Dragonlance is the only other turtle-like dragon, you can again get ideas from that if you can borrow a copy of Dragonlance: Age of Mortals. Finally, for the biggest turtle of all, the Colossal zaratan of Al-Qadim fame is in Arms and Equipment Guide. |
| Aeolius06-08-07, 03:40 PM | I was working a "true" dragon turtle into my undersea games, as well, along with coral, pearl, and abalone dragons of my own design. Envision a half-dragon (dragon turtle) sea drake, one of these days. ;) |
