TalinXT 01-16-04, 12:19 AM	I think most of us who've runinto the problem of playing dragons as pc's have noticed one glaring problem. We cant wield normal weapons and our natural attacks our pretty lame even when we take feats we simply cant compete with our humanoid counterparts. Thus I've come up with a solution to allowdragons to compete by creating some weapons to use in any campaign with dragon pc's that can be enchanted just like any other weapon. These weapons either use the natural attacks normal damge, enhance it, or use it's own damage All prices are for medium sized dragons. All weapons, due to the complexity and nature oftheir use are considered masterwork weapons. Jaw Weapons: The bite is a dragons primary attack and thus does the most damage. Many dragons will forego claw and wing attacks altogether in favor of one devastating bite. Some of the following weapons can be used without encumbering the dragons ability to speak or use spells others must be put away inorder for them to be used. Jaws of The Dragon: This is like the item of the same name howevor, it does not change to fit the size of the wearer and still provides the benefits of the sharptooth spell to bite attacks. It cannot be used by any other creature. If a dragon grows into a size category higher then the jaws they must spend 500g to have them altered to fit again. This weapon does not affect a dragons spell casting ability. Price 10,000g Damage: One size category higher then the dragon. Weight: 8lb Weapon Type: Simple Critical: x3 Damage Type: Slashing and Piercing Jaw Blade. This weapon is not unlike a two headed sword. it is wielded in the jaw by biting down in the middle. This weapon is treated as a double weapon and not part of a dragons natural attack thus it has it's own damage. A dragon may choose to attack with both ends but incurs the normal penalties for two weapon fighting and is counted as two light weapons. A dragon cannot use its normal bite attack nor breath weapon while it wields this weapon. Price: 1,000g Damge: 1d8/1d8 Weight: 15lb Weapon Type: Martial Critical: 19-20 x2 Damage Type: Slashing Jaw Chain:This long spiked chain is extremely difficult to wield. Howevor in the mouth of a well trained dragon it can be a surprising and devastating weapon to anyone. They usually keep it wrapped around their neck their tough hides making it slightly easier to make manevuers wrapping the chain around certain body parts without harming themselves. It is held in one end in the dragons mouth. the other end usually ends ina spiked weight. A dragon wielding this weapon cannot cast spells with verbal components, nor can ituse it's breath weapon. It can be used against adjacent opponents. The dragon has +2 on opposed disarm rolls. You can make trip attacks with the chain and drop the chain to avoid being tripped if you are tripped during you're own attempt Price: 2000g Damage:2d4 weapon type: Exotic Critical x2 Damage type: slashing and bludgeoning Reach 10ft(this stacks with a dragons normal bite reach) Special: For chains of smaller variety subtract 5ft from the reach for each size category. For chainsof a bigger size category add 5ft for each size category. Claw Weapons: Many dragons that do use weapons will rarely focus on anything held in their mouth preferring to keep it free to use breathweapons and spells. Thus many dragons will use weapons specially designed to enhance their claw attacks. Gauntlets: Simple yet deadly. These act like normal gauntlets in that they use the unarmed damage of the claws. Unlike the claaws howevor they can be enchanted to add even more effectiveness to the claws. Simply double the price for normal gauntlets for a dragon to use. Bladed Gauntlets: Often worn as part of some spiked armour these gauntlets allow dragons to attack certain creatures without bringign hamr to themselves. They are spiked all along the backs of the claws and each claw ends in a wicked scythe with jagged edges. This weapon is often favored by evil dragons. Price: 700g Damage: 1d10 Critical: 19-20 I'll have some wing and tail weapons tonight :)
unusualsuspect 01-21-04, 11:58 PM	As it happens, there is a "tail blade" and "tail club" in Savage Species that would function quite well as tail weapons for a dragon. Beast Claws, a set of magical gauntlets, would work well with dragons as well.
strenoth 01-23-04, 01:30 AM	also note that varios magic items exist that allow all natural wepaosn to be effectively ecnhanted, but they tend to be pricey as some of them effect ALL natural weapons, no matter hwo many of them you have...

unusualsuspect 01-26-04, 01:27 AM	So, for a dragon, an amulet of mighty fists is far FAR more attractive then it would be for a monk or (possibly) a druid. And would you have normal dragons weilding these dragon weapons? Why would the young bronze dragon, barely 7 years old, use a weapon that makes their attack more effective and an ancient green dragon, whose intelligence score is probably at least twice as high, wouldn't think twice about using the weapons, despite knowledge of their effectiveness?
