Riplox 08-06-04, 08:37 PM	Just in case you saw this post somwhere else, don't have a hissy fit. I realized it would be better answered here. Ok. Here's the thing I don't understand. How is a dragon supposed to progress as a dragon and still gain character levels? Can I not take any other class than dragon? I'm asking this because I'm confused how the progression of the dragon's abilities are layed out. They age and gain abilities so slowly that other party member could conceivably die of old age before I get any bigger and more powerful. Is that the way it was meant to be? If all it takes to get to the next size category is to gain enough XP to have a character with that many Hit Dice (such as a Juvinile Blue dragon going from 15 to 18 hit dice and becoming a Young Adult). Would I have to gain 51,000 XP to progess or do I have to just wait till I'm old enough to be considered the next age category (from being Juvinile at 50 and then a Young Adult at 51). If it's the latter, can I gain character levels as a "normal" race by gaining XP? This has always confused me. Help? :confused:
guardiandashi 08-07-04, 02:08 PM	the simple answer is ... its up to your GM. the GM has several options on that matter: 1 make it strictly xp related (was done in one of the dragon mags) 2 make it strictly age related (doubt most gm's would do this as it causes imbalances) 3 make it both IE you have to be X years old before you can buy lvl xxx -yyy as a dragon (the age category abilitys usually 3-4 level psudo classes) of course method 3 REALLY promotes "power gaming" IE I am a gold dragon but I am only 4 years old so I cannot have more than 11 DRAGON hd (and the +4 LA) until I gain another year of age but I am xping and am now lvl 16 (1 level of say fighter sorc etc) and I level up well in this case I HAVE to buy another class level as I am not ALLOWED to buy dragon HD/levels yet.... go on major adventure .... gain 15 levels in 8 months... whoo hoo I am now a lvl 31 char with 11 gold dragon HD, 4 LA (might have bought some LA off if using that optional rule) and xxx class levels
