Dragons and critical hits [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-03-06, 09:29 PM I could be wrong about this but my understanding is that dragons are immune to criticals. However, while attempting to prove this to one of my players I can not find it in the monster manual. Can anyone clarify whether I am right or wrong and if dragons are indeed immune to criticals give me a page number?

06-03-06, 09:41 PM No, dragons are not immune to criticals naturally. They are made of flesh and have important bits that can be stabbed. Being immune to criticals is part of the creature type, ie, ooze, elemental, and undead. The dragon type has no such clause.

That being said, I would imagine most older dragons would either have spells (such as undulating innards) or items (fortification) to prevent critical hits, being as intelligent as they are.

06-03-06, 11:43 PM I think they were in 2ed, or at least in BG2, but in 3.5, they can be sneak attacked. Though flanking them can be hard, and they usually have a large NA bonus to overcome(and it's not like denying them their dex bonus will do you any good... ;) )
