So...Dragons are immune to paralyzation and dropping dex to 0 paralyzes you; this tells me that dropping a dragon's dex to 0 does not make it helpless.

So yay or nay, is shivering touch a dragon killer or not?

Yeah, it is, I suppose. Dragons are immune to Paralysis effects. Having a stat reduced to 0 though is slightly different.

The SRD description does not say paralyzed:
Dexterity 0 means that the character cannot move at all. He stands motionless, rigid, and helpless.

I believe that reducing a dragon's Dex to 0 does render it helpless and is a different condition than a paralysis effect. There was an "Ask the Sage" question in Dragon several months back about whether dragons, being immune to sleep effects, are immune to being rendered unconscious; and the answer was no, because the two are different situations. So I used that analogy.

No.
While being at 0 dex mimics the paralysis condition, they are ultimately treated as 2 separate effects for purposes of rules interaction, even though the penalties are quite similar.

Thus, a dragon at 0 dex is still immobile.

How do I know? Because I asked wotc the same question some time back...
The SRD states that • Dexterity 0 means that the character cannot move at all. He stands motionless, rigid, and helpless.

Is this the same as the paralysed state? In the 3.0 DMG, it does state that 0 dex equates paralysis.

My question is this: if a dragon somehow has its dex drained to 0, is it paralysed? If so, will its innate immunity to paralysis protect it against this? Or will it still be helpless?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Ken,

Unfortuantely not. While having a 0 Dex mimics the effects of paralysis, it is entirely separate. The Dragon will not be immune to the Effects of a 0 Dex due to his Paralysis immunity.

Good Luck and Game On!
