Dragons and sweet tastes? [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-18-04, 11:12 AM Okay. That little innocent line bugs the hell out of me now. Why on earth are dragons erked about sweet tastes?

Only real theory I can come up with so far is about their senses being so acute, that anything remotely sweet, would be like a super-sour gobstopper or the like to them.

Any other ideas?

01-18-04, 04:34 PM They just tend not to like them. Not all people like sweet tastes. Personally I can't stand icying it's far too sweet for me so I tend not to eat most cakes. A lot of people don't like sour tastes, a lot don't like the taste of hard liquor, others can't stand brocoli. Why can't dragons just have a natural dislike for the sweet?

01-19-04, 12:10 AM Dragon's metabolism is so high (evidenced by the ability to fly with small wings in comparison to the mass of the animal, breath weapons, spell like powers etc) that sweet foods can lead to a potentially lethal "sugar high" if enough sugar or sugar based food is ingested. The sugar is digested so rapidly that it leads to a "shock" to the system. Dragons have developed a distaste for sweet foods as a survival mechanism. As the top predator in almost every environment, the high energy content of sugarry foods is not necessary, and massive ammounts of slow to digest foods like meat become a more useful food.

Hey.. Maybe could make that a magic item. Gobstoppers that a dragon can suck to constantly use it's breath weapon. :D

01-19-04, 05:46 AM I think its slightly traditional. That fact has been around a while, I've seen in in several old dragon magazines and other books.
