Dragons as familiars? [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-24-06, 10:10 AM I was wondering recently about having a dragon as a familiar for a sorcerer. The MM states that dragons will sometimes give their young to humans to watch and care over ect. ect. But can a Sorcerer (or Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple) take on a dragon wyrmling as their familiar? Could you consider this a special ability that the Dragon Disciple receives at tenth level when they take on the Half-dragon template?

Just wondering...

12-24-06, 10:14 AM A sorcerer or wizard can get a dragon as their familiar. All that they have to do is take the Dragon Familiar feat from Draconomicon. I suppose that, if you wanted to, you could give this to Dragon Disciples as a bonus feat at tenth level.

12-28-06, 08:36 PM Yep, take the dragon familiar feat and at the appropriate level you can have a dragon familiar:

Arcane caster level:
7:White
8:black
9:brass,green
10:copper,blue
11:bronze
12:red, silver
14:gold

This is assuming that you have the appropriate alignment to get along with the dragon. If you have more questions, please see the "dragon Familiar" post a little ahead of yours where I have already answered several rules-oriented questions about dragon familiars.
