baneofkobolds 01-04-04, 04:24 PM	i was just wondering dragons are really strong so could a medium sized one carry a medium creature as long as its not too heavy, large or carrying anything too much. like an elven wizard. light weight, few possessions, and no armor and although in the medium category their sature is pretty small (not even as tall as humans and much skinnier in general). do you think i should allow such a thing to occur? it seems that logically a dragon of medium size could carry a an elf. of course i would never allow a dwarf to ride a medium dragon much to bulky and heavy.
BrianMc223 01-04-04, 04:46 PM	A light load for a medium Brass dragon is 66 pounds, and even a gold only has a light load of 86. (the weakest and strongest good dragons repectively)
Derren S. 01-04-04, 04:48 PM	To ride a creature it has to be one size larger than you, so you need a large dragon for a elf. Becuse of their high strength, dragons can carry very much so it can certainly happen that they carry people even heavily armored fighter but dragons (and all other creatures) can only fly with light load.
CrimsonPhoenix 01-05-04, 08:46 PM	Another situation to fit in with this: what if you rolled the dragon's stats yourself and had plenty of light load capacity. I'm playing a gold dragon in a party of medium characters (currently level 9) and we have had several situations where it would be nice to serve as a temperary mount for our ranger (elf, weight 110 w/ equip). I carry no equip myself except for a 15lb +4 mithral breastplate (made for a dragon by a friend of the party). I have a light load capacity of 176 (enough for the elf and armor plus some). Our DM is still not sure on the matter and won't allow it for more than a couple rounds at a time until we find out further.

Derren S. 01-05-04, 08:49 PM	If you are large and you can carry the elf at all you can serve as mount for the elf. If you stay in light load you can even fly. There is no difference on what you can do as mount as a horse could. (Except the obvios flying, firebreathing etc.)
Zif 01-05-04, 09:00 PM	If your dragon is medium, the reason you can't be ridden successfully by the elf isn't your ability to bear the weight, but simply that you are the same approximate size as the elf. It just wouldn't work. You could carry him around I guess, but it wouldn't be the same as riding.
