My campaign world (Erda) uses different rules for dragons than the standard D&D types (detailed below). Given that I have custom dragon types, do you think the Draconomicon, which I have never seen, would benefit me in a way to make it worth the price?

Dragons of Erda

Fae Dragons

These miniature dragons are often associated with faeries. Most are less than five feet from head to tail, with bat-like wings. Their scales have an extremely active chameleon like ability. This gives them a near total camouflage in almost all settings. Several times per day they can breath out a cloud of sparking faerie dust that causes those in the area of effect to fall into a deep sleep.

Fae Dragons are about as intelligent as a pig and have cat-like personalities. They have the ability to read the emotions of creatures within several feet. In addition, they can project their emotions via touch. Using this ability they have been known to establish strong friendships with more intelligent creatures.

True Dragons

Winged fire-breathing beasts of legend, True Dragons are often quite large. Most are sixty-to-ninety feet from nose to the tip of their tail with a central body that is larger than an elephant. Wingspreads are approximately double to the dragon's length. Rumors of extremely old dragons over three hundred feet long are not uncommon.

These creatures are highly intelligent, but their actions seem to be driven by instinct and memory. They speak their own language, Dragonian, as well as having the magical ability to speak any language which they encounter. In addition, they have a longer ranged form of the empathy found in fae dragons, being able to transmit their emotions to any creature with their line of sight.

All female true dragons come into heat every 17 years and the creatures maintain a unified cycle or heat. Eggs hatch after a 10 year incubation. Hatchlings are all grey. Adult color development appears to be dependent on climate and other environmental factors. Once coloration is established it may or may not change if the dragon relocates to a new environment.

Region / Dragon Color
Arctic / White (occasionally Ice-Blue)
Alpine or Cloud / Blue
Underground, near heat source / Red
Underground, no heat source / Black
Plains or Desert / Yellow (occasionally Orange in desert regions)
Forest or Swamp / Green (occasionally Blackish is wetland areas)
Rocky Badlands / Grey

False Dragons

These dragons are winged creatures that grow to sizes no larger than a horse. They are often mistaken for young True Dragons, but are not grey. Their colorations match those of adult true dragons of the same climate. Unlike true dragons, false dragons have animal intelligence and do not have a fire breath attack.

Wurms

The rarest and perhaps the most powerful form of dragon, Wurms are wingless and unable to fly. Their coloration changes with their mood, as does their breath weapon. Common breath attacks include lightning, fire, acid, and gases, particularly sleep, chlorine, or methane gas. While they prefer to communicate via telepathy, they are ability to speak any language that they encounter. Wurms are able to change shape at will. They are generally very reclusive but legends claim that some enjoy appearing as humanoids. It is suspected that several have lived among the younger races for years, posing as sages or magi.

Sea Dragons

Resembling Wurms in shape, these aqua-green wingless sea serpents have purple webbed claws and fish-like fins. They are able to breathe both air and water. Their breath weapon is a blast of air, which can rip sales and even break a ship mast. They also have the ability to cause great waves, which they often use to capsize a ship. While they appear to be only slightly less intelligent than humans, Sea Dragons do not use any know form of communication.

Giants and Dragons jointly control the countries of Aeraes and Honah Lee, both part of Jotunheim (Lands of the Giants). The giant cities of Gastropnir and Thrymheim in Honah Lee are said to have Dragons within.

Any dragon with a breath weapon, wings, or spells can be enhanced with the Draconomicon.
