| howlingwolf03-05-04, 08:08 AM | I was flicking through my good ol' Savage species book to have a think about a dragon using a huge sword, and cast my eye over the feats and spells chapters. Is it just me, or does it seem like dragons could be uber-evil? I mean you can take a rapid breath feat, plus it's alternative from Draconomicon ( The name escapes me ) and have a dragon that breathes every 1d4-2 rounds. I mean jeez, could having it breathing every 2 rounds, including the party's! If you look at a few other feats, you can add some -seriously- unexpected attack forms and bonuses to dragons! Eg. Thunderclap - Deafen and/or knock down opponents. Wingstorm - Create up to TORNADO force winds that stops folk moving forward, or blasts back fliers. Improved Multiattack - REMOVE any penalties from secondary attacks. Blowhard - Create winds with a attack action. Improved Scent - Find anyone in 5 feet regardless of invisibilty/silence/darkness! And even better, if dragons can take improved grab ( Once again, can't remember if it's possible ) they can take the fling attack! What else would be better than picking up a helpless PC and tossing him at his friends! :D Anyone else know any other 'non-typical- ways of making dragons a bit more challenging? As besides terrain and buffing themselves up with Haste etc. ? All I seem to be doing is that very same, and I'm not sure about the above. Might end up TPK without meaning to... >.> |
| gradea03-08-04, 05:07 AM | thier the same feat howling wolf, though you can rule what ever you want... and give the dragon perfect multi attack, most are epic in HD and CR and minty fresh taste... and give it items/levels in Transmuter |
| Sssargoth04-06-04, 02:40 PM | dont forget the prehensile tail feat in SS if u want it swinging a giant sword.:smirk: larg and in charge from the Draconomicon is fun too Edit: Rapid breath is from Savage Species which makes u wait -1 round for the breath weapon. Recover Breath is from the Draconomicon, and it does the same thing. so, yeah a dragon could use its breath weapon with a 1d4-2 with a minimum of one round between uses. |
| gooru04-11-04, 01:17 PM | fling enemy = good combine with multigrab/imp multigrab and well... you have opponents who are in quite a bit of trouble! Here... I'll show you: grapple check = I win (I'm a frickin' collosal dragon!) fling = 300 feet up to my ceiling = 20d6 damage against the ceiling + 20d6 damage on the floor on the way down and then I'll breath on you... or, combine it with large and in charge... so they rush at you... you not only smack them and keep them back... but you grab them and throw them way the heck away and take out the mage... the SS is wonderful! also works with the half-giant quite well! |
| TheDreamcatcher05-05-04, 10:47 PM | So far, the most evil, outright nasty, dragon I have made is a vampiric Shadow Dragon with the multiattack, improved multiattack, rapidstrike, and improved rapidstrike, and quickened breath. Has anyone paid close attention to the fact that vampiric dragons DRAIN levels per claw hit? Shadow dragons DRAIN levels with their breath weapon. So, quickened breath --> breathe as a free action (draining at least 6 or 8 negative levels, or less on a successful save) , followed by at least 4 claw attacks that drains 1 level PER hit. Honestly, if this dragon wins initiative and the party has no immunity to negative energy or at least some protection up front, they are toast. Any spells the dragon has are to improve the combat situation to its needs. And should the pcs escape to see the next day when they have to make those saves to determine whether or not those negative levels are permanent, they make those saves at the current levels they are stuck at, not their normal levels. So they are almost guaranteed to lose those levels. Trust me, this combo works. In just one round, this dragon did the tactic mentioned above and nearly wiped out the entire party...they fled on their first turn. Have fun with this combo. :) Sincerely, TheDreamCatcher |

This enabled it to cast Mordenkainen's Disjunction to dispel any wards and follow it up by a Quickened, Clinging, Lingering Breath. :D Trust me, that is GUARANTEED to make the party flee for their lives! |
| TheDreamcatcher05-06-04, 01:35 AM | That is a good combo as well. I also forgot the shadow dragon I mentioned before had the clinging breath weapon feat. Now, if someone wanted to make a dragon that was totally broken, just add the paragon template from Epic Level Handbook. With the paragon template, the breath weapon DC skyrockets. Just power attack like crazy or drop them with the breath weapon combo (disjunction + clinging + etc). Total doom for the pcs. :b: By the way, using the Disjunction can be risky when artefacts are involved...but then again, how often do you see pcs with artefacts? (*coughs coughs*) One of these days I will have to make a dragon bard, just to see if I can get away with charming the pcs into becoming the dragon's lackeys or making them do things that would besmirch their 'noble' reputation. :D Anybody else got interesting or fun combos for your dragons? Spread the wealth and share the fun. :) Sincerely, TheDreamCatcher |
