Dragons Vs. Titans [Archive] - Wizards Community

In a campaign world I am building I have great wyrm dragons taking on titans for the roll of supreme beings. Each one has a grouping of races under its sphere of influence. Dragons have the evil races +some humans. Titans have the good races +some humans.

WHO WOULD WIN AND WHY????

Are we talking about a big all out battle or about a long war? If it is the latter then the life cycle of both species would also matter. I know the one of dragons (Draconomicon). Is there any info on how fast titans grow up and how fast they reproduce?

Im planning on giving the Titans enough levels in various classes to make up for the difference in CR. I plan to use them as pseudo-gods.

What would stop dragons from having class levels?

Probably a longish war, say 100-200 years. Don't know where to find anything on the Titan life-cycle, but I'm thinking it follows a 1200 year pattern.

Well, remember, with such long-lived beings (Immortal? for the Titans, 2000+ years for the dragons) ... battles are likely decades in between. One major conflict and then study of tactics for a decade before another major battle.

That would be, in a human scale, the equivalent to a major battle every 3.5 months.

What difference in CR? The CR difference is minimal and most of the time you have to buff the dragons and not the titans.
But it seems to me you already know who would win in your campaign world.

Something else you have to consider, even when you only use the evil dragons, when you compare the mental abilities of those two races the dragons come out on the top except for the weak ones. So they would have better tactics.

Ok, reasoning:

1) Dragons have 6 natural attacks a turn for massive damage with a reach of 60, 40, and 30, besides their normal attacks due to attack bonuses, whereas titans only have a reach of 15 (i think, correct me if i'm wrong).

2) Dragons can fly

3) Access to wish and miracle spells, as well as other spellcasting abilities.

4) Frightful Presense. Not every titan can be a paladin with immumunity to fear.

5) Spell Resistance. Even if titans get spellcasting ranks, or use their spell-like abilities, there is a good chance that these attacks will fail outright

6) Energy immunity. When a chain lightning does no damage whatsoever to 20% of true dragons, it can be a huge advantage.

7) (Joke Reason) Dragons get all evil races, and hence kobalds. With all kobalds united under one banner, their reproduction rates would skyrocket! By the time the rest of the good races finished slaughtering the kobalds, the dragons would have finished off the titans with the advantages listed above. :D

8) Oh, I almost forgot: Dragons have specific prestige classes, one of which can turn them into a god.

04-26-07, 09:26 PM If you don't make all the dragons wyrms and great wyrms, I think the titans may be able to stand a chance, but the odds of them winning are still less than I'd like. I love titans, but they would probably lose :weep:
