Er...that all depends on the age of the dragons...no other creature really ages and gains power like they do.

I didn't say that...I said you can't just say "What's as strong as a dragon" when dragons have like ten different CRs depending on what it's age is.

To answer your question, you need to tell us what age category (wyrmling, very young, young, juvenile, young adult, adult, mature adult, old, very old, ancient, wyrm, or great wyrm), and perhaps what color (as certain colors aren't as strong as others). Supply us with that information, and we'll name more creatures than you can handle with about the same power level.

Powerful, a dragon would get torn to shreds by a Tarrasque but as far as battle wise, I would say demons are pretty sly combatants :)

At the lower CR levels, lots of things are as scary as an equal CR dragon. Take the Remorhaz, for example. At CR 7, it has a burrow speed, Improved Grab, Swallow Whole, a +23 grapple check, and to quote another board member, an "atomic stomach".

Just by using the tactics listed in its entry, you are very likely to kill at least one PC with it. And if the other PCs do manage to hit it in melee, their weapons are likely be destroyed. Depending on how things go, it could easily eat an entire level 7 party.

I'd say this is comparable to a young red dragon (also CR 7).

An 8-headed hydra is also CR 7, and could be quite nasty, depending on the circumstances and party.

The Tendriculous is only CR 6, but is horrible with tons of immunities, improved grab, swallow whole, paralysis, and regeneration.

Well-played vampires and their spawn can be devestating against a party that lacks a good cleric, or even one that includes one, if the vampires have a way to counter his turning (a cleric of their own, etc). This is particularly true of low CR vampires, and I've seen even a lone vampire spawn easily wtfpwn an appropriate level party.

I think the Outsiders are somewhat of a match for equal CR. If I remember right most of the Devils, Demons, and Celestials as well as Dragons have a slightly Lower CR for their actual abilities.

Solar angels vs Great Wyrm Red dragon, as presented in the back of dracominocon. Who would win?

Depends really exteremly on the circumstances. The CR says the Dragon has a slightly better chance, but there are always a lot of chance-rolls in a combat and even simple tricks can radically alter the chances.

Ha! The Tarrasque is NO MATCH in melee or in general combat with a Great Wyrm. A Great Wyrm outmatches it physically, mentally (ten fold), and magically. A Great Wyrm could SOLO the Tarrasque.

How many solars? One solar vs. One great red wyrm? No contest. The Solar has potentially age on the dragon, but besides that it lacks anything that would cause the dragon to suffer the solar's existence.
