| Omega the Powerfull08-28-06, 02:49 PM | I have only a simple question - I believe... Can a monsters that advances with age - such as dragons - gain levels in character classes? |
| Sorcen_Anenooata08-28-06, 02:57 PM | Of course they can, why wouldn't they be able to. |
| Omega the Powerfull08-28-06, 03:01 PM | why wouldn't they be able to. Force of darkness? :) |
| Sorcen_Anenooata08-28-06, 03:05 PM | Hmm.. care to elaborate? |
| Omega the Powerfull08-28-06, 04:04 PM | It was supposed to be a joke... forces of darkness would prevent a dragon from having character classes.... haha very funny huh?:P |
| Sorcen_Anenooata08-28-06, 04:38 PM | Ah ok, sorry I have a knack for thinking too much into things. I was thinking you had a specific plot hook for your game in mind or something along those lines. |
| BoringInfoGuy08-28-06, 04:40 PM | Yes, they can. Check out the Draconomicon for more information. |
| Daffydd ap Hywell08-28-06, 04:47 PM | Dragons definitely have classes. Favorites are sorcerer (that stack with their already formidable natural sorcery), fighter (for the feats), and barbarian (love that rage). As posted previously, the Draconomicon has wonderful prestige classes for them as well. |
| Omega the Powerfull08-28-06, 05:25 PM | A barbarian dragon - this is for sure a "must have". |
| PhaedrusXY08-28-06, 05:29 PM | When I first glanced at the title of this thread, I thought it said "Dragons with cheese", and I thought "Hmm... this sounds tasty." :D Dragons don't really need classes to rip most adventuring parties to shreds. Just give them a few really nasty spells like Wraithstrike, or (Widened) Antimagic Field, play to their strengths, and minimize their weaknesses. |
| Talisman08-28-06, 05:37 PM | Dragon with rogue levels...imagine a 50'-long bright-red dragon leaping out of the darkness and roaring "SNEAK ATTACK!!" |
| Omega the Powerfull08-28-06, 09:11 PM | PhaedrusXY - Maybe a new race of dragon... why only metal and coloured dragons? Food dragons - much tastier indeed - I would place a pineaple dragon in my adventures ;) Talisman - I got another one - The colossal dragon comes to destroy the city along with his army of vassals, but a few meters from the city they suddently halt... the Dragon picks up his colossal lute and start to inspire his legions. :D |
| kaizer_soatze08-28-06, 09:20 PM | whats the dracomocin if its some I should know plaese forgive me |
| Sorcen_Anenooata08-28-06, 09:43 PM | whats the dracomocin if its some I should know plaese forgive me The Draconomicon is a DnD book that is all about dragons, introduces new kind, does a run down of the physiology of them, deals in depth with lairs and other dragonesque things. Pretty good book in my opinion. |
| kaizer_soatze08-28-06, 09:48 PM | cheap? |
| Sorcen_Anenooata08-28-06, 09:52 PM | $30 I beleive. We're getting off topic though. |
| obrysii08-28-06, 10:09 PM | The Draconomicon is $40 USD. Dragons can take any class they wish. Monks and Paladins are pretty good for Dragons, too. |
| Omega the Powerfull08-28-06, 11:21 PM | Monks and Paladins are pretty good for Dragons, too. Dragons with monk levels seems to be a little over the top in my opinion. |
| Melpomene08-28-06, 11:30 PM | Dragons are usually too preoccupied in their ancient contemplative studies or other eldrich bric-a-brac to take levels. The average dragon is working on a totally different timeclock. Mechanically, you want to be careful. If you use CR, remember that dragons are high-end NPCs to begin with. If you compare a dragon with levels to a LA +0 of the same CR, the dragon will always win (you heard me. Always.). Dragon sorcs are a good way to give a spell-casting dragon BBEG a shot in the arm without advancing them to the next age category (and thus greatly enhancing thier CR). The same is true for most other class options. |
| obrysii08-28-06, 11:56 PM | Dragons with monk levels seems to be a little over the top in my opinion. Indeed. And it would make sense for a Gold or Silver dragon (or any Lawful dragon, for that matter) to become one. After all, they possess all of the natural talents required (although they do not possess a high dex scores--but for their size, it is still impressive) as well as the mental will power. |
| The Vorpal Tribble08-29-06, 01:56 AM | The Draconomicon is $40 USD. Bah, $26 on Amazon.com, and I'm sure you could find a better deal on Ebay. Everyone of my D&D books is from one of those two sites (except for a couple I won in a contest). Got my 3.5 DMG brand spanking new for about $10 off Ebay, and unblemished Book of Exalted Deeds for less. |
| strenoth08-29-06, 02:10 AM | Caster-prestige classes are usually actually more bang for yoru bbuck than sorcerer levels. |
| runestar08-29-06, 09:28 AM | Best is still to go with extra HD instead, cr wise, they offer the most bang for the buck, even moreso than class lvs. Am I the only one who thinks that sorc shouldn't be an associated class for dragons?:P |
| Vestigial_Thumb08-29-06, 11:51 AM | unblemished Book of Exalted Deeds for less. They paid you to take it, didn't they? :P |
