| tec-goblin11-30-07, 02:09 AM | In http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4dnd/20071130a the results of a call of giving 3.5 stats to some dreamblade minis are published. It includes very original and bizarre monsters ready to use in your campaigns., (as well as a submission of mine. :D) . I am flipping through the other submissions right now. More comments later :). |
| Soel Griffin11-30-07, 03:31 AM | Very interested in these! I'm new to using minis, and these generally look even coler than a lot of the D&D ones. Anyone know a good place to get singles (hopefully cheap?) |
| tec-goblin12-04-07, 02:27 AM | Yam! Gonzales' Hiveling Overlord is fun as well as Crittenden's Fleshless Reaper. My entry had its end cut out: the part about playing a Chrysalis Spinner, continuous reincarnation and Chrysalis Spinner familiars was probably too complicated. But I repost it here, just in case somebody's interested. Be warned, though: there is probably a good reason this part was removed from the entry, so use at your own risk!! CHRYSALIS SPINNERS WITH LEVELS Each Chrysalis Spinner is exceptional. Some of them, though, manage to survive in one form more than others. These might be important incarnate, bard or rogue courtiers in the Fey Court. Otherwise, they could be nightmarish totemist or incarnate avengers who have fought against a powerful force of good or evil in many lives, each time getting slightly closer, but realizing that their opponent has gained power again as well. You can add levels to the above creature for NPC Chrysalis Spinners, or use the following race for PCs and NPCs. The above creature, in fact, is slightly inferior to a PC Chrysalis Spinner totemist 1/incarnate 5. Level Adjustment: +4 FOR PLAYER CHARACTERS Chrysalis Spinner characters possess the following racial traits. —Fey type. —+4 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom, +4 Charisma. —In addition to a land speed of 30ft, a Chrysalis Spinner possesses also a fly speed of 10ft (average manoeuvrability). —Low-light vision —A Chrysalis Spinner always treats Knowledge (history) as a class skill. —Weapon and Armor Proficiency: An Chrysalis Spinner is automatically proficient with all martial bows. — Natural Grace (Ex): When not in heavy armor, a Chrysalis Spinner receives a deflection bonus to its Armor Class, equal to its Charisma bonus. —Damage Reduction 5/cold iron. —A Chrysalis Spinner with at least 11 Charisma can use the following spell-like abilities: 3/day speak with animals, 1/day goodberry. A Chrysalis Spinner with at least 12 Charisma can also use minor image 1/day. Saves are Charisma-based and caster level is equal to the Chrysalis Spinner’s HD. —Chrysalis Progression: Chrysalis Spinners’ wings get stronger as they grow older, and they have a particular affinity for binding soulmelds and items to their beautiful necks: 2 HD Fly speed 20ft 3 HD Fly speed 30ft 4 HD Fly speed 40ft 5 HD Fly (good maneuvrability) 6 HD Chakra Bind (Throat)MoI —Reincarnate (Ex): Chrysalis Spinners cannot be raised by anything sort of a true resurrection, wish or miracle. Instead, if a Chrysalis Spinner dies, she is immediately reincarnated somewhere in the world. A Chrysalis Spinner PC always remembers some basic things about her old party, so she can try to find them. If a Chrysalis Spinner dies from a death effect, an effect that prevents true resurrection or by giving the blow that reduces her to -10 hp with a cold iron weapon, she makes a level check against DC 20. If she fails, only multiple wishes or deific intervention could return her to life, which should be a quest of its own. If the save is successful, she is reincarnated as normal. Reincarnation works as per the spell reincarnate, though no level is lost, though the new race might have a lower level adjustment. Also, the Chrysalis Spinner retains the Reincarnate ability. Use the following table: d% Incarnation Str Dex Con 01-03 Aasimar +0 +0 +0 04–25 Chrysalis Spinner +0 +4 +2 26–31 Elf +0 +2 –2 32-34 Gnoll +4 +0 +2 35–36 Gnome –2 +0 +2 37–40 Goblin –2 +2 +0 41–52 Grig -6 +8 +2 53–58 Half-elf +2 +0 +0 59–62 Half-orc –2 +2 +0 63–67 Halfling +0 +0 +0 68–75 Human –4 +2 –2 76-78 Lizardfolk +2 +0 +2 79-89 Nixie -4 +6 +0 90–94 Orc +4 +0 +0 95-96 Troglodyte +0 –2 +4 97-100 Other ? ? ? —Automatic Languages: Common, Sylvan. Bonus Languages: Celestial, Elven, Gnome, Gnoll. —Favored Class: Incarnate and Totemist. If you don’t use Magic of Incarnum in your campaign, Chrysalis Spinner’s favored class is Druid. —Level Adjustment +3. Chrysalis Spinners can be both male and female and can be of any alignment. CHRYSALIS SPINNERS AS FAMILIARS OR COMPANIONS Sometimes Chrysalis Spinners are reincarnated as magically aware animals. A familiar or animal companion can be in reality a Chrysalis Spinner. A Chrysalis Spinner familiar functions as the normal animal, but has 1 less natural armor than normally for its kind and has 4 more ranks in Knowledge (history) than its master. A Chrysalis Spinner animal companion has 1 less natural armor (if any) than normally, but has an empathic link with its master, as familiars do. With your DM’s approval, a Chrysalis Spinner familiar or animal companion might enter a chrysalis (cocoon) and reemerge after some days as a fully fledged Chrysalis Spinner. This is a major event in your relation with the companion or familiar, and it could involve a quest. Mechanically, if it is a familiar, you need the Improved Familiar feat and at least 13 arcane spellcaster levels, and you use your class level -12 for purposes of determining the companion’s natural armor bonus. The familiar keeps its intelligence and hp if they are higher than what rules for familiars suggest. If it is an animal companion, you need a druid level of at least 12, and the Chrysalis Spinner can become your cohort if you have the Leadership feat. If you do not have, for as long as you forfeit your ability to use an animal companion, you gain the ability to have Chrysalis Spinner as a cohort. |
