| Remnant04-05-04, 05:36 PM | ... or however you spell it. I know I've read about them, and I know I have stats for them somewhere, but I can't recall where. Any help would be appreciated. |
| Thomar_of_Uointer04-05-04, 05:38 PM | I heard about them first from Torment. It might be in the Fiend Folio or the MMII |
| Remnant04-05-04, 06:08 PM | A little research (once I figured out the right spelling-Nupperibo) revealed why I can't find them in my 3e material- they have only been published in a third party book I don't have. Which begs the question, where the heck did I see them? perhaps in old 2e material. |
| Mithral Icesilver04-05-04, 06:16 PM | I don't have the source myself, but Shemeska (or mabey it was Xanxost) once mentioned a planescape adventure with a nupperibo given to the Kytons of Jangling Hiter by the yugoloths.;) |
| Primus, the One and Prime04-05-04, 06:35 PM | In Second Edition Nupperibos were statted out (not sure exactly which MC it was in, or even if it was in an MC). Nupperibos are a form Baatorian inhabitant that spawns directly from the plane of Baator. It is thought that Nupperibos are the first stage in the evolution of the beings referred to as the "Ancient Baatorian", though this is by no means proven. Nupperibos are herded by the 'Zu and either eaten, killed, sold, or forcibly promoted down to lemure status to continue along the road to Baatezu advancement. |
| Shemeska the Marauder04-05-04, 11:21 PM | Nupperibos are as Primus said. Sources, all of them 2e Planescape books: 'Planes of Law' 'Hellbound:The Blood War' 'Faces of Evil:The Fiends' 'Tales from the Infinite Staircase' (this was the one w/ the Nupperibo in Jangling Hiter that was gifted to the Kyton lord of the city by a Yugoloth. That particular specimen was matured to the next level of its development into an Ancient Baatorian, and was given by the 'loths with that in mind simply to see what would happen, and potentially to induce rebellion between the Kytons and Baatezu) Nupperibo are sometimes sold, and it's almost always to the Yugoloths. This has to make you wonder if the 'loths do with them as they claim they do when they purchase them from the Baatezu. The knowledge of the origins and end product, so to speak, of the Nupperibos might be known by the Yugoloth highups in more numbers than just the one Ultroloth who, by way of a Nycaloth, gifted the Kytons with that one maturing specimen. If so, they might be allowing them to grow and mature for the future use of them in the Blood War, or simply to experiment on them. Or the 'loths as a race might be ignorant largely of them as well. |
| Gez04-06-04, 05:21 AM | You may have seen them on the web, since they're on the Creature Catalog. (For reference, the third-party book you mentionned, the Tome of Horrors, was started as a project to present the Creature Catalog in printed form, so most of the ToH critters are in the CC. Since the CC conversion team is very prolific, however, the ToH critters are only a tiny fraction of the CC critters.) |
