| Mage Arbados02-22-05, 05:49 PM | Players in my game are playing monstrous characters and a couple of points came up. First, does a drow also only have to be in a trance for 4 hours like a regular elf to regain spells and rest? Second, about how long is the lifespan of a minotaur? When would they start to receive penalties/bonus's to abilities for aging? I appreciate the help. If their is an official source for this information that would be great. If not what would you think would be reasonable answers. wasn't sure which forum to place this in. |

| SigmaJargon02-22-05, 11:08 PM | First of all, an elf spellcaster only has to sleep four hours a night to avoid fatigue penalties or whatnot, but it still takes him/her 8 hours to memorize spells, regardless of how long they have to sleep. Its under the Magic Overview section of the SRD, under the Arcane Spells section. Rest: To prepare her daily spells, a wizard must first sleep for 8 hours. The wizard does not have to slumber for every minute of the time, but she must refrain from movement, combat, spellcasting, skill use, conversation, or any other fairly demanding physical or mental task during the rest period. If her rest is interrupted, each interruption adds 1 hour to the total amount of time she has to rest in order to clear her mind, and she must have at least 1 hour of uninterrupted rest immediately prior to preparing her spells. If the character does not need to sleep for some reason, she still must have 8 hours of restful calm before preparing any spells. Under the Divine Magic section, it says "The time required to prepare spells is the same as it is for a wizard" So, in other words, regardless of race, you have to deal with an 8 hour spell recovery lag, regardless of race. ------ As to the minotaur age categories... I have no idea. I'd set it arbitarily at about 200. So, something along the lines of middle age at 75, old age at 115, venerable age at 155, and about +4d20 til maximum age. *shrug* But, as far as I know, there isn't any offical set age for minotaurs, so ultimately its up to the DM. |
| Mage Arbados02-23-05, 11:56 PM | My mistake on the post. I am aware of the 8 hours required to regain spells. I felt that the drow only need a 4 hour trance as well. I guess nobody knows how long a minotaur lives? |
| magicchupacabra02-24-05, 12:19 AM | The last place I saw any age ranges for Minotaurs(and several other workable PC races) was the old 2nd ed book Humanoid Handbook. It has hight/weight tables and age tables for several races that are still in 3.x. Might be worth looking into if you got a few monster characters running about. I'm sure you can find a cheap copy on ebay or in the used section of your local game store. |
| d_nychus02-24-05, 12:47 AM | 3e Dragonlance has Minotaurs that reach maturity at 17, and live to about 150. 2e The Complete Book of Humanoids has them reaching maturity at 12 + 3d6, Maximum 150 +1d100, with Middle age 75, Old age 100, and Venerable 150. |
| Paladin200402-24-05, 04:18 PM | If i were DM i would rule that Minotaurs have a life span of about 10 000 to 100 000 to infinate number of years because they are used as permenent guards in places, so to have them die in about a hundred years would be abit lame. |
