| POPE09-22-03, 11:37 PM | Hello, I was not sure where to post this. I am considering an invasion styled campaign. The invaders are a suped up race of drow. What it comes down to basically are psionic drow shades. They have defeated the illithids and the rest of the underdark. They did this by making a home base on the plane of shadow where they made some genetic enhancements. They are a race now so deviant from the normal drow that they have enslaved many of their cousins. Now they have turned their attentions to the surface of the world where their distant ancestral cousins were driven from long ago. Their goals are these: Elven genocide Complete dominance of the surface world To enshroud the world in eternal shadow and gloom The leader of the invaders is a 1/2 fiend psionic drow shade[necromancer/priest] Most others are psionic drow shades priests are 1/2 fiends bred warriors are 1/2 dragons rank and file warriors are fiendish drow They are allied with a group of shadow dragons They use giant scorpions as companion creatures in the war Now there will be a group consisting of 2 priests, 4 warriors and 2 rogues that will be directly opposed to the pc's. General tactics are: work at night or severely overcast days use shadow powers to travel and surprise All or most have dimension door so they have good mobility mostly guerilla type tactics until they gain a strong foothold then a more traditional invasion strategy I have a few questions: What levels should the pc's start at?[between 8 and 10 of them] Should I change anything as far as the monsters go? Is the psionic drow shade an interesting and viable combination? What might you do differently? |

Drow are still elves, and it takes a LONG time to create the armies you're talking of (especially if you're throwing dragons and fiends in). So sure you'll have majority of the races being the drow but have some of the army made out of duergar, deep gnomes, derro strike teams that only work at night, mindflayers (I know but maybe a few), and aboleths. Throw in some Neogi, umber hulks, and avolakias with hordes of undead and you got a deal. |

You can go places with that 'Shadow' diety. Maybe these now drow are foot soilders in his war to bring the material plane into shadow. Maybe his goals are diffrent, maybe he hates the shadow plane, maybe he was imprissoned there and the drow on the shadow plane made a pact with him and he did the genetic stuff for them to give them more strength. In return they have to help him return to the material plane and do nasty stuff, and worship him instead of Lollth. Oh yeah, and while he was on the shadow plane of course he had to conquer it, so maybe he built up an army and has been waiting to get to the material plane. You could try making a 'shadow corrupted' template and putting on creatures to suprise your characters. Now that the freak Drow have the underworld they may have corrupted other beings, so now you have 'shadow' umber hulks and other oddities. Hey maybe the drow want to corrupt every living thing (that is freaky). You could start them out at level 1 early levels- invasion force bieng musterd, rumors of strange dark creatures. 1 or 2 encounters with shadow creatures, clues of invasion given. Maybe the PCs could find a town where the population are being corrupted. The source of the corruption could be a magic item placed in the town. Maybe itmes like this are everywhere. mid levels- invasion begins, PCs can't do much to stop it. A gate is made to shadow plane and strange creatures fill the material plane. Pcs try and rally forces and explore sources of invasion, particurlay the gate. Maybe the PCs must help defen a place of importance from invasion. Cure for shadow sickness needs to be found. Just some random ideas. |

They had an issue a while back detailing a githyanki Invasion, and how to alter it to accomidate any race. Definitely good to check out... I wish I knew which issue it was, but I'm not near my collection at the moment  |

Using some of these allows for more varied tatics and sping. |
| GewdThyme the Foolhardy09-28-03, 03:08 PM | Issue #309 I think. |
| POPE09-29-03, 10:11 PM | I am basing it off of the githyanki invasion. I also found a site that has a more powerful drow varient race. For my game I think I will use it. What are the protocols for posting someone else's work to share? [I would like some input about it.] I am thinking of using slivers from the magic card game as allied monsters [actually the queen would be controlled by a high level telepath], if I could find a good enough conversion. Otherwise I am looking for something different to throw at the players. Any other suggestions? |
