What kind of animal would be able to go in and out of the water easily and still work well for an animal companion?

All suggestions welcome!

Thanks!

They don't have swim speeds listed, but snakes, wolves and tigers can actually swim quite well.

Small sea snakes are fantastic animal companions. The rules for converting vipers to sea snakes are in Stormwrack.

Perks - High Dex, small size and natural armor means they don't get hit very often, their poison has a +2 DC adjustment and does Con damage, Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat, small enough to be carried when on land, hold breath, swim speed, feats from Serpent Kingdoms like Spit Venom turn your little friend into a death ray.

Flaws - very slow on land, Int 1 so it only gets three tricks + AnCo bonus

Your animal companion only benefits from Shared Spells so long as it is five feet from you so its slow movement isn't that big a deal if you keep it close.
