Druid Mounts [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-16-05, 02:26 AM Okay I KNOW that in one issue of Dragon or another there were stats for a riding deer/elk and I cannot remember for the life of me which issue it was in.

This is pertiant due to my desire to build a celtic/samurai culture and a riding deer (ala Princess Mononoke) would be a nifty replacement for horses. What can I say? I really like fiddleing with cultures :D .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

09-16-05, 05:39 PM Hmmm... Take a light horse and give it a "Gore +0 (1d4+1)" attack (i.e. give it antlers)?

09-17-05, 02:19 AM I don't think it's too much of a stretch. Druids and Rangers can take horses as animal companions. If your campaign's culture has a different riding animal, then why not? The only problem I can forsee is that the animal in question might be significantly better than a horse.

As for stats, Frostburn p 164 has stats for a Caribou (aka reindeer)but you'll probably have to Advance it by a HD or two to get it to serve as well as you want. Rules for monster advancement are in the back of the MM and also in the SRD.
