| CrazyCloud09-07-06, 09:11 PM | Hello. I'm playing an 8th ice-based druid about to face vampires and shadows. Are there any recommended spells to combat them? I'm currently allowed Core, Complete, and Races books for spells, and possibly Frostburn. |

| primemover00309-08-06, 01:46 PM | Two words. Death. Ward. Use it early and use it often! It's a 5th level druid spell so you'll need to get some scrolls of it as you don't get 5th level spells till 9th level. Lesser Restoration: get potions as it takes 3 full rounds to cast. It'll help agains the STR damage Shadows cause Bull's Strength: Might as well boost your STR as the shadows will be lowering it. Cat's Grace: use it to up your touch AC vs the Shadow's incorporeal touch attacks. Magic Stone: you'll still have the 50% miss chance vs the incorporeal shadow BUT it does 2d6+2 points to undead Any Cure spell harms undead with a touch. Against the Vampire Freedom of Movement: You don't wanna get into a grapple with a Vampire. Control Water: Vampires can't cross running water. Use this to make trickles in a dungeon/sewer into a formidable barrier if you need to retreat! |
| RobbyPants09-08-06, 01:58 PM | I wish I could remember the exact name of the spell: Searing Light? It's a fairly low level spell 2-3, but I may be all wrong here: perhaps it's just a cleric spell, and not for druids. If so, sorry for the bad post :nonono: Anyway... assuming it's a valid choice for your druid, it does decent damage, and pretty good damage against undead! :evillaugh |
| The Vorpal Tribble09-08-06, 02:39 PM | Nature's Purity from Lords of Madness is nice. Against undead it deals 2d8 points of force damage, and 5d6 points of force damage against aberrations, making a critical on a roll of 19-20. Its got no save. So if the shadow creatures are aberrations, just zap them all. Better than magic missile anyways, point wise. Sunmantle from Book of Exalted Deeds might also be a good bet. It acts as a Daylight spell, but also grants you DR 5/-, and anyone that hits you in combat takes 5 points of damage as the light sears them (no save). Creatures who dislike light also take penalties. Edit: Whoops, nevermind, just noticed your allowed books. |
