I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but i didn't think it quite fit anywhere else.

Do you think that a duskblade would benefit from becoming a lich? Many things that a duskblade finds useful (like HP and AC) and gained from the template, as well as racial skill bonuses and immunities and a few special attacks. I was just wondering if it's worth actually taking.

I don't have to worry about being detected because I wear softhand gloves (RotD) which will make me look like a normal member of my race, and i don't have to worry about alignment because our DM is the easiest guy in the world (he lets vile characters take VoP). I know there are rules for 'positive' liches, but i don't have the books they are in.

Really the only benefit lich gives is immortality and being difficult to kill. The other benefits are just fluff to make it look at least somewhat appealing level 4 adjustment. Btw this would probably be better in Races or Class.

With the lich template you'd lose attack bonus, saves(but gain immunities), spells, and depending on con possibly HP. Its a safe bet to say that lich isn't the right move for you.

Ok, thanks Idle.

Now, how about i rephrase the question slightly? do you think that a duskblade would make a good lich as a reccuring NPC (note: not neccessarily an enemy)? Would they be able to channel their paralysing touch with arcane channeling? that would be a pretty deadly combo, and was going to be kind of central to his power.

Unless the Dmed house ruled it no, a lich could not channel his paralyzing touch.

quote pg 167 of mm1 (3.5)

Type: The creature becomes undead. Do not recaclulate creatures base attack bonus, saves or skill points.

Special Qualities: A lich retains all the base creature's special qualities and gains those described below.

How exactly would a lich duskblade loose attack or spells????????

I think he means the +4LA you have to suck up, with translates to 4 lost lvs of duskblade.

Since you gain a natural attack (the lich's touch), you could make a full attack action and then use your touch with a -5 penalty to attack roll to paralyze your opponent in addition of channeling a spell.

I played a battle sorcerer(unearthed arcana variant)/ abjurent champion/ blackguard named Taithleech once, he was one of my favorite characters. I can think of some advice.

Have him buy or (preferably) create a Life drinker (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicWeapons.htm#lifeDrinker) in the form of a one-handed weapon. Infinitely stacking negative levels with no save is the grand daddy of all damage it even has a chance of becoming permanent, and since he is undead he wont suffer the backlash. Also anyone who he kills with those negative levels will rise as spawn creating wight, that can be seriously useful if you use it right. I'm not familiar with the duskblade class but could he also channel an enervation for even more negative levels? That would rock.

At the same time he'll be lashing out with his touch attack (at a -5 but it's a touch attack that ignores most armor bonuses) that forces a "save or be as good as dead and completely at my mercy" my character took ability focus (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsterFeats.htm#abilityFocus) to make it really difficult to save Vs. his touch, and because of the negative levels from lifedrinker if the opponent's fortitude save is too high a few energy draining smacks will bring them down to size.

And once you can afford it after the extremely expensive phylactery and lifedrinker get a animated shield (Taithleech just used a abjurent champion boosted shield spell though), adding that to the +5 natural armor, any armor he has, 15 damage reduction, other miscellaneous AC bonuses, and defensive spells combined with all the undead immunities he'll be very hard to hit, damage or destroy even without factoring in the phylactery.

The lifedrinker and paralyzing touch are both very powerful but useless against some creatures like constructs and undead so you should have a contingency plan against them. My lich character used his blackguard rebuke ability and the command undead spell to deal with other undead and always kept a supply of slaying arrows(construct) (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicWeapons.htm#slayingArrow) which an iron golem has a 70% chance of failing its' saving throw against. Haha Cr 13 creature gone in one attack:D.

And finally put that craft wondrous item to good use and craft some dust of sneezing and choking (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/cursedItems.htm#dustofSneezingandChoking ) for when you're in a tight spot. As a lich you are immune to both effects but your enemies will choking a sputtering while you are finishing them off.

Man my DM hated taithleech so much, mostly because he could survive in any situation, was good at magic and swordplay, and destroyed the B.B.E.G's big expensive iron golem with a single inexpensive arrow and then sprinkled the B.B.E.G with his dust of choking while reducing him to paralyzed, energy drained lump with the negative energy levels+touch attack combo.
