earth elementals blind? [Archive] - Wizards Community

i might be a fool but.... earth elementals have eatrh glide in 3.5 but not tremorsence. xorn all have both. so when the elemental is in the deep earth its blind? is there anything i missed? :confused:

Pretty much, I'm afraid. Of course, this has always been true, as I recall.

House rules abound in regards to it.

Maybe gliding earth elementals usually keep an 'eye' to the ground.
As this earth elemental 'eye' would look like any other stone, who could tell?
Although a gliding eye would look pretty strange.
They probably glide for short distances and peek above ground for a sec and glide some more when they are hunting or doing whatever elementals do.

Yes, they are. Otherwise in my experience they become far too difficult to fight.

Since they can't see through solid rock but can move through it, it's best either for short trips through walls or the aforementioned "periscope" method of moving through the ground. They can also use it to retreat from combat, flank enemies, or avoid attacks of opportunity (such as by grabbing an opponent's legs to start a grapple).
