This is probably a dumb question, but it won't be my first (or, most likely last) so here goes:

The eladrin's protective aura grants a deflection and save bonus to attacks or effects created by evil creatures. Otherwise, it acts as a Magic Circle and Lesser Globe of Invulnerability. Do the Magic Circle and Lesser Globe effects only affect evil enemies, or do they apply to any enemies and only the deflection and save bonus are restricted to evil foes?

Thx

The eladrins as a type does not have a protective aura - I assume you are talking about the ghaele in particular.

Off-hand, it seems that only the deflection and resistance bonus is restricted to evil creatures.

Oops! That's what I meant. I sorta figured that's how the thing worked, the language threw me off a bit. I wasn't sure which way I was supposed to take it:

Interpretation 1: 'otherwise (if the enemy is not evil) the effect works as a Magic Circle and Lesser Globe of Invulnerability'

Interpretation 2: 'otherwise (in addition to the specified deflection and save bonuses) the effect works as a Magic Circle and Lesser Globe of Invulnerability'

Protective Aura (Su): Against attacks made or effects created by evil creatures, this ability provides a +4 deflection bonus to AC and a +4 resistance bonus on saving throws to anyone within 20 feet of the ghaele. Otherwise, it functions as a magic circle against evil effect and a lesser globe of invulnerability, both with a radius of 20 feet (caster level equals ghaele’s HD). (The defensive benefits from the circle are not included in a ghaele’s statistics block.)
So yes. Normally, it would be protected with a globe of invul+magic circle against evil effect. The first line simply means that the +4 bonus supercedes the normal AC bonus/saves granted by the magic circle, but other benefits, such as suppression of compulsion effects and warding of summoned monsters remain unchanged.

In effect, it is a very roundabout way of saying it is a double-strength magic circle against evil.:)

In short, the globe of invul applies to everyone, but the magic circle applies only to evil foes.
