| Zat07-14-03, 01:05 PM | I have searched through mm1 3.0 and scanned the art galleries of MM1 3.5, MM2, and Monsters of Farun and can't find any electric monster other than the shocker lizard. Am I lost, stupid, blind, or correct in my fear that the shocker lizard is the only electric monster?I mean you'd at least think there would be a thunder bird or something. Help me. |
| Jaern07-14-03, 01:08 PM | Well, the arrowhawk is kinda close... and Blue Dragons and Behirs both have electric attacks... |
| Zat07-14-03, 02:40 PM | Ok A) What all electric attacks and what not can they do? B) Would any of them make a good familiar to some one devoted to the art of lightning? |
| Jaern07-14-03, 03:06 PM | a) Huh? b) Shocker Lizards are good familiars. If the DM permits it, so is a Juvenile Arrowhawk, but it's just a tad on the overpowered side. Behirs and Blue Dragons are right out. You could also possibly ask for a Mephit or Elemental of some kind- maybe take a Small Air Elemental. Actually, give me a few minutes- I'll make you a Small Lightning Elemental. |
| Zat07-14-03, 03:09 PM | You are soooo super nice. Will you be my friend? |
| Jaern07-14-03, 03:14 PM | Lightning Elemental, Small Small Elemental (Air) Hit Dice: 2d8 (9 hp) Initiative: +7 (+3 Dex, +4 Improved Initiative) Speed: Fly 50 ft. (Perfect) AC: 17 (+1 size, +3 Dex, +3 natural) Attacks: Slam +5 melee Damage: Slam 1d4 + 1d6 shock Face/reach: 5 ft. by 5 ft./5 ft. Special attacks: Electrical Abilities Saves: Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +0 Abilities: Str 10, Dex 17, Con 10, Int 4, Wis 11, Cha 11 Skills: Listen +5, Spot +5 Feats: Flyby Attack, Improved Initiative, Weapon Finesse (Slam) Electrical Abilities (Su): Lightning elementals are immune to lightning, and for every 5 points of lightning damage they would take, they gain 1 hp. Once per day, they may use a bolt of lightning to strike their foes- this deals 1d6 damage for each HD the elemental has. This spell's level cannot exceed their HD/2. Lightning Elementals appear to be like small storm clouds, and constantly thunder- opponents attempting to hear them get a +5 bonus. Due to the electrical discharges within, they also get a +5 spot bonus. Therefore, they are useless in stealth. |

| Zat07-14-03, 03:22 PM | THis is cool. Just one question. Is it rideable? |
| Jaern07-14-03, 03:29 PM | It's small sized. It's about half the height of a medium-sized character. Definitely not. In fact, most familiars are not rideable- they are generally small animals. When creatures get big, they get tough, so I doubt you will ever get a rideable creature. Paladin mounts and druid companions are really the only class to get something like that. |
| Zat07-14-03, 03:34 PM | Poo. Ok, I'll just have to elage hime with magic. Or maby I should shrink me. Ooo, I could polymorph myself into a halfing. Could a halfling ride it, or would the familiar get smaller too? |
| Jaern07-14-03, 04:12 PM | Your best bet is to ask the DM to custom research a spell. I'd figure L4 is appropriate. "Jolt of Growth", Touch-range spell. Full round cast time. Material component: 5 pounds of some kind of conductive metal, powdered. If target creature is immune to electricity, it immediately becomes two sizes larger than it was. If target creature is not immune to electricity, it immediately takes 3d6 points of electric damage as their bodies are damaged by the attempt. |
| Zat07-14-03, 04:17 PM | Thanks. I'm gonna work that spell out if you don't mind. It will go nicely with my prestige class anyway. |
